GW First week feedback

After two weeks, I think that GW has some bugs (people unable to join GW if they joined guild after monday) that make it not so enjoyable.

If a guild lose some members, it is quite sure that it is going to lose a bracket because it will have to fight for the entire week with <30 members against full guilds.

Moreover, GW has brought us the new meta: after TrueShot, Devour, ManaBurn, Frozen, Courage+BD, now we have DK+2xFamine

if we could do the gw battles earlier on the week, this would at least partially be fixed

Our guild, Stratagem (previously known as Vn4ever) doesn’t seem to have serious issues about this. We don’t fret about losses and are happy with what we achieve, but of course try our best. We have several people trying and testing out builds which takes time initially. We haven’t had people leaving because of GW either.

Opponents tend to get 1-dimensional but that’s mostly within their guild.

Btw I don’t see much difference between the current GW lists and the tier 3 trophies too.

3 weeks passed :slight_smile:
im starting to ignore new event bonuses and just go with my color teams already set (sadly i have to have two invade teams for each color making it 12 team slots just for gw invade)

i observe that each week some of my guild members cannot do the fights at sunday, where normally they do each fight the day it becomes possible - is this last day short window to do the fight really intended?

Yeah, I’m at three weeks and my Casino thing stands:

Last week, I was near the bottom of my team, Dragon’s Peak, which is in the
top 10 guilds in the game and in the first tier. We finished fifth or sixth
last week.

This week, I used THE SAME EXACT TEAMS and had nearly a perfect score and
ended up being the top scorer in my guild. WITH THE SAME TEAMS THAT LOST
ALMOST ALL MY BATTLES LAST WEEK.

However, Devs, this means you are woefully inadequate in coming up with
things that don’t just turn into RNG devour or deathmark chances. High
level GW is really a crap shoot and while I did well this week, I still
don’t feel great about it because I did well only because I was lucky and
not the most skilled person in my guild.

Kripparrian recently said something about RNG in hearthstone that I think applies pretty well to GoW.

I’m just going by memory but it was something along the lines of “Rng is a dice throw, you throw the dice and get an outcome. But now the die is a boulder and will crush you if it lands badly.”

So far I’m liking Guild Wars for the attack side of things. Been dusting off old troops and even trying troops never used before.

Now defense teams are the issue for me. Death knight team set it all week and your good. Well devs this ain’t good enough and I think the biggest mistake they made was I could pick Any colour troops for any days.

Should be all blue defense team on blue days E.T.C.

Wouldn’t change the amount of Deathknights players fight, as the hero can choose a weapon of any colour. :wink:

But I do agree having defence teams all mono colour would be interesting. Devs give us more team slots!

i think monocolor defense teams is plain nonsense and will be so utterly weak gw ranking would became a laughing stock

however i agree that positive incentives for variety in defense would help, positive as in: rewarding ppl who do so, not forcing them to do so

I now absolutely hate GW. If it wasn’t for the resources I get from being in a top clan, I would quit the clan and stop GW immediately. Card stats and mechanics don’t matter anymore (in the highest brackets), everyone uses DM/Devour teams and it’s all a matter of luck as to whether those unfair mechanics will trigger or not. The 10% for deathmark is rigged, it occurs much more often than 1/10, and very often right away. Famine is also way too good, the nerf can’t come soon enough as far as I’m concerned.

The issue with defense is basically this:

  1. The AI sucks so bad that it has to cheat to be on any level playing field with a human
  2. As a result, if you vary defense to things that aren’t RNG instakill you will invariably just lose 100% of your defends in GW
  3. So that alone creates the GW meta that includes devours and deathmarks in every defense, all with RNG-related kills
  4. Trying to buck the trend just means you’re letting your opponent win.

And… so after a week of no losses, I start today off with complete and total loss because this week every time I get a DM or a devour chance it happens to me. And the RNG was extra lame this week because it looped kraken through three devours for the win.

Such a crapshoot to base big prizes on.

So I made a team that was all impervious and it didn’t have damage output to beat the team, either. Not my day. I do not lack skill, I just lack patience for the devs making us have to subject ourselves to this kind of bullshit stress just so our guild can brag that we’re lucky at the end of the week. There is no skill and therefore GW at the high level just becomes a roulette game where you might get more resources if you’re lucky.

I faced the same 5 times on this day… Forest Guardian, Kerberos, Kerberos and Giant Spider/Hero Deathknight.

This does not make me want to play this mode anymore, its quite the opposite. I did go 5-0, but I had to fight cheese with cheese. If everyone is just going to play cheese as defense every week, why don’t the dev’s just set it to the worst possible defense team for everyone everyday of every guildwar.

Frustrating is the 1 word that would describe this new mode.

I agree, i only haven’t had such good luck. I think in two games, I’ve succeeded on 3/9 devours. But of course the AI goes 2/3 no problem. I quit using cheese against cheese because RNG didn’t like me.

I disagree… Last week i went 30/30 and the week before… You guessed it 30/30 in fact the ONLY gw battle i have lost was the first time i faced a DK team and didnt pay attention until i killed DK and DM proc’d on all 4 of my troops.

I have faced DK waaaaay more than once in GW and yet i keep winning while i see many others complaining that its only RNG.

There is a lot more to it than that and when ppl say there isnt it diminishes the level of skill some ppl have.

Spell timing, proper gem match choices, and good team building can and do more than make up for bad runs of RNG.

Skill does mitigate RnG, but it doesn’t eliminate it. If you get lucky you can beat a lucky AI, and if you play skillfully and aren’t unlucky you can still beat that lucky AI. But if you get unlucky at the same time as the AI gets lucky, you’re toast. If you don’t have any “proper gem match choices” and they do, plus the AI DM/devour is successul, there is no amount of skill that can overcome it. Saying it’s all RnG is inaccurate, but making it sound like if you’re skillful you’d overcome bad RnG is an equally flawed statement. You are obviously playing skillfully, but your results show you’ve also been on the favourable side of luck (as have I in many games).

Personally I’d like some of the RnG aspects reduced, but I don’t want them eliminated totally. And I think balancing cards so there are other viable options and we start facing these 2-3 specific RnG teams less will improve things far more than the current “nerf DM” requests, including the actual change to 1 turn that the devs have promised.

I’d be interested to knowwhat team you used. I use an all impervious purple team in pvp and it makes these buffed Kerberos teams a breeze.

Interestingly there are only 7 purple troops with impervious, with three of them being mythics. The other four are two Mecha from Adana, a fairly useless Sphinx, and the void portal.

Only 7? It seems okay compared to:
Blue: only 3 Impervious, with the “fairly useless Sphinx”.
Yellow only 5 Impervious, with Dwarven Slayer (no comment), Lil’ Johnny Bronze (or how to give skulls to the opponent) and Mango (random is not that much useful)
Brown: only 6 Impervious, with 2 Common troops, Lil’ Johnny Bronze and Mango.

So for me, with these 3 colors there are only 2 troops useful… so quite difficult to do a good team…
