Guild Wars Reforged Feedback

Feels weird quoting myself when I could just edit my first post but I think this is a very important topic separate from reward talk.

There’s definitely a big conflict of interest between Personal Reward Track based on Wins (free side) and pushing forward risking losses for the guild.

The top prize: 18 Wins for 5 Shiny Tokens for a new legendary. At the very lowest value, it’s still -1 mana on a Legendary troop. Upfront value.

That means you can only afford 2 losses in 4 days.

Say you go 4/1 and 4/1. Suddenly there’s 2 days left and there’s a large risk of not getting the last free reward. What happens?

Some may run 5x gate just so they get their reward at the cost of a guild being able to properly compete against a different guild, tanking the entire guild’s chances to have a fair fight. As much as its easy to “tell” people to do something, its impossible to “control” 30 people to do what’s asked, especially in this environment where you can’t even tell who does what let alone who probably ignores guild chat.

There’s probably going to be the one strawman person saying its just 5 shiny token, who cares! You’re right, make it 20 gold. Principal still stands.

It still has a negative effect on the competitive guild experience. Even if paying gems to unlock tiers was extended to the free side (and really it should.. they would still be paying gems for just the free side stuff), people aren’t going to want to pay gems to get their personal rewards by default.

I honestly don’t know what the solution is now that everything is already implemented, but this right here, doesn’t work.

@TheIdleOne brings up a great point. Since you only get 20 sigils for the event and unable to buy more. Those who waste money on medallions may be unable to collect all the rewards unless they are able to win 18/20 matches. Not an easy task for new players. Therefore Medallions are online gambling since you have a finite attempts to succeed with no guarantee you’ll get anything for those attempts.

The more I learn the more I completely can’t believe any actual human spent significant time on this event. Was this beta tested at all? If so, what is the point of a beta test if you ignore all the feedback generated from them? I believe you may want to revisit the difference between alpha testing and beta test.

I have no choice but to recommend anyone who wastes money on the event to only do the first battle, 20 times in hopes of a return on their money. It’ll be unfavorable to the rest of the guild, but I’d rather lose gold marks than help 505 games continue to leave a bad taste for players in what used to be a great game.

Historically, the “fix” for this will likely be something along the lines of ‘ok then, winning same spot twice in a day doesn’t count for your individual rewards track.. and you’re welcome’, so gotta be careful what we wish for here :downcast_face_with_sweat:

The GW redesign was primarily done for the monetising (zero effort on the ‘collected’ player feedback of what made GW enjoyable or even strategically manageable), with the Shiny Token carrot being the main motivator: so if we buy their medallion thing (or whatever it’s called) we can unlock all individual rewards at 20 gems a pop, so no conflict of interest anymore..

One possible quick and dirty fix is to move bronze icon, silver icon, and swift talisman, all those no one actually cares, to reward for 14, 16 and 18 wins. That minimize conflict of interest without a total overhaul.

Couldn’t it be bought after you do all your battles (similar to how campaign pass can be bought after finishing the free tier)?

There’s absolutely been valid concerns throughout this thread, and I’m by no means a B1 GW enthusiast. I neither hated nor loved the old GW; 5 battles in a row against the same (or very similar) empowered troop + book team was alright, but not all too engaging.

New GWs is less balanced, sure. But to me, it adds a lot. I really like the strategy of going down paths or choosing to repeat battles based on what you think you can beat. The colored guild sentinels seem like they’ll be a neat feature too in an update or two. The new style gives more incentive to communicate and collaborate as a guild. Perhaps my favorite part is not having to face/use the same colored teams every war. This allows for actual team building strategy rather than “who gets the infinite loop first” (granted, this can certainly still happen and is an effect of a larger balancing issue beyond GW). I very much enjoy this.

The lack of scoring results is of course an issue, and balancing may favor attackers or defenders. To me though, the positives outweigh the negatives here, and future updates will help smooth things out.

While I understand the sentiment of those who don’t like the direction the game is going, the constant expression of “the devs actively hate the players (or are bumbling idiots - pick your poison) and the game will be dead soon because of X update” from many players here is getting old. It’s been used for years, and yet many of the players who feel this way are still playing the game, which is still very much alive and undergoing large updates not indicative of a dying game.

I’m by no means insinuating that negative feedback shouldn’t be given. It’s good to remember, though, that the forums are a tiny percentage of players of this game, and we tend to be very vocal. There are many more opinions of the playerbase than the ones often represented here.

That’s probably one of the worst things about rewards atm. You force people into losing rewards if they don’t pay for the guild wars medallion. Hell, I was putting my rewards at great risk today fighting Emberclaw, Takshaka and Beetrix…:scream:

The solution? Just allow people to use gems to get rewards on the unpaid side too if they happen to lose more than 2 battles. It would stop people from getting upset after 2 losses where guild mates would just take easier battles to avoid the risk of losing out on rewards.

Sorry, I don’t have time to read everything already posted - but I think I can provide a different perspective.

I’m happily sitting in an almost dead guild. It was part of a larger guild family, where mine was meant for people taking breaks or retiring. Our Guild Leader has long since left our guild, and the game entirely. So have a lot of other people. The, maybe 5, people that do still play, we don’t get very far in events.

I say I’m happily here because I know I can just walk away at any moment without a care in the world.

This new Guild Wars is actually very good for situations like this, or newer guilds that are just getting started. The rewards for winning the “Daily War” are meh. Sure, if a full guild is active and winning, you can get a book or two with the gold marks.

But the personal rewards are really helpful. The Glory orbs will help in getting gold medal troops and you get a fully shiny legendary (maybe mythic in the future?). Of course, once I’m done with medals, I’ll probably have no need to participate in this system at all.

This is much better than the previous Guild Wars on a personal level. And the ELO system will make sure that our not-quite-dead guild will never fight a fully active one, so I should be able to win most of the time.

Just my opinion on this slice of the game. Still don’t really like the direction of things overall, but, compared to Arena, this system is much better.

This is guild wars if you ordered it from Temu. Messed up something that never needed to be fixed. At most all you had to do was make the old guild wars rewards better

We need to remove kingdom restrictions from Guild Wars because kingdoms are not properly balanced. It’s just making us worry about the terrible experiences that are waiting for us. Just make it so that you have to use the same color troops and weapons for the keep that you are attacking. For example, if you’re fighting a guild that set defenses in the frozen keep, you can only use blue :blue_circle: colored troops and weapons.

Sorry if this has been asked or answered elsewhere, but I couldn’t find it.
On a given battle day, while Guild A fights in Guild B’s keep - and at the same time - Guild B fights in Guild A’s keep?
Or can it get very lopsided with (medium) A fights (strong) B - while (strong) B is fighting (weak) C ? Thus letting B get a massive point advantage.

@Jeto

Chrysantherax MUST be banned from Guild War and PvP!

And 10 Gold Marks + 300% is 40 - not 35!

been pretty consistent for me

A lot of people don’t know that wand of stars will be replaced by the orb and I have seen a lot of them in game. @Jeto can you make an in game announcement?

I just want a proper leaderboard that updates on the regular. All we have right now is a Trophy leaderboard. That is kind of strange for a competitive event that has nothing to do with trophy count.

This became one of the unexpected issues for us too! Peeps keep playing the gate over and over again, because the cursor is automated to it saying play and showing green. Even I almost accidentally repeated a fight in a building already defeated.. Once again the stats or guild roster would help to see where the issue is.

Without any stats to show for the actions of others there’s very little one can correct. Feels like we are swinging swords in the dark…

As I wrote to one of the gw threads before, I don’t understand much about the ELO formula, but playing against the guild “In memory of Melba” and losing to “Gardiens du lys” is a bit weird. No wonder if no stats were added to show what is happening, as this seems like everything is just an illusion given to us after a long wait. What would a few more months of wait would have done, instead of giving us this mess in a hurry…

I never even thought of that. I always put my guild first, and according to the results, so do our members. Anyway, you can still lose twice and 20 gems for missed rewards is very very low compared to the usual cost of GoW stuff.
