In addition to the pre-war feedback above, here’s some post-war feedback:
Our casual guild used to have around 50% participation in Guild Wars (~15 people), whereas we are now lucky if we get 6 or 7 members doing their attacks.
This is a direct consequence of having to build new teams each Guild War, the Attack Restrictions, and the fact that players who used to be able to choose any team they like (when Restrictions Were Optional) are no longer able to do so. In short, Guild Wars has become a stressful chore to many.
The fact that this drop in participation comes despite the new rewards given for winning 18 battles, is hopefully telling.
Here’s to hoping Jeto can keep on sending the key elements up the feedback chain, and apologies for any redundancies.
The unbalance is hard to explain to the devs from a seasoned veteran’s perspective. I honestly think that Kingdom restrictions should just be removed because they’re too harsh on newer players and some kingdoms have not kept up with the power creep and utility of recent troops that were added, so the scales tip towards the defense like these past wars.
But it’s a delicate scale that is hard to adjust. Too easy, and there’s no competition. Too hard, and everyone just gives up. I am just one person, and the community should vote for it, but the devs will do that for us, so whatever.
My honest opinion:
•Limit defensive troops to be able to only use 1 of a single troop. (Takshaka, Khafru, Boom Pile, Stormgard are the biggest offenders).
•Chrysantherax. Since you changed Stellarix to Diamantina, changing the new flower dragon to Diamantina makes logical sense, but I am not sure. It would definitely make elemental, dragon and palaces weaker, but being one shotted, struggling to fight a troop with a half mana start and empowered troops seems…a bit off balance.
•Rotate keeps that we have to defend to give a bit of the feel of “colored” GW days again. Everyone is just going to keep using the same overpowered troops on defense in the same keep. Every. Single. Time. Open up our minds to new strategies using the weaker troop types.
•Remove kingdom restrictions. Period. Newer players can feel like they’re going up against Megatron with nothing but a paper clip and chewing gum. Kingdoms are out of balance and some have to rely on some really dumb gimmicks, outdated troops, or just…frustrating mechanics that don’t match well with the power creep.
I could give examples of bad match-ups, but the devs don’t read this information anyway, and I don’t want to overwhelm Jeto, so I will just leave it at that.
Another guild wars gone by, another…well…underwhelming experience.
Somebody already said it, but I’ll reiterate - it would be better to grant individual reward path for games played, rather than games won. Then it might encourage people to try advancing, rather than simply camp on the pushover gate. And, mind you, it’s not only low account that do it. I’m an endgame veteran yet still did the same on the final day and I don’t believe I was the only one.
I played the gate, then second battle, looked the both available third battle options and…went back to the gate. I had already suffered two losses previously so I couldn’t afford another one; with a team that necessitates 95% luck and praying…sorry, I’m not risking it. (It should be mandatory for every member of your team, who is involved in design decisions, to stream 20 battles against player set defenses - the more meta, the better, no pushover gate allowed - and win at least 18 of them.) The math is simple and straightforward - if I try advancing and suffer defeat, the guild loses and I get nothing out of it, whereas if I just sit on the gate, the guild loses but at least I get something out of it. Which one will you choose when the system effectively punishes you for trying? (Well, thankfully it didn’t matter in the end - opponent score advantage was just too great for my individual result to change anything. But what if the final score would’ve been very close?)
Another thing - every guild should get minimum guaranteed rewards for participating like we had during previous bracket system. Right now if you can’t win you must leave empty-handed…possibly for all eternity, so why even bother trying?
It shouldn’t be too hard to do, seeing how you had no problems at all simply handing out maximum possible amount of rewards to some guilds for free simply because your system is too stupid to match them up with real people so they face your fake stupid ghost guilds that are guaranteed to lose.
People keep mentioning remove restrictions and it’s easier for new players.
No new players have, tak, khafru, Stella, chrys.
So it’s a contradictory sentence, yes newbies will have more troops, so they can then get beat even quicker, by our oldies meta troops.
Yes remove restrictions for new players under level 999, but anyone over still has restrictions.
If that’s what you mean, but removing restrictions for everyone. Makes GW. PvP version 2.0 central spire.
Blighted lands against double khafru lol. And this is from someone that has every troop. My only chance this guild wars was using archduke as a zuul light. Without him what do you have? Skull damage from infernal king is too slow. Consorts are too rng
Infernal King on its own, might not do much. But if you had a Immortal Furnax, preferable on level 4 to be fully traited, then you were cooking with hellfire. You could also work out some other teams that worked somewhat with the cards given by a not so spectacular kingdom Here are three of the four day my guild won. My worst case was a 4/1 on day#2 when the summon hero+Gaard just became a huge problem after I got rid of two Taks in Temple.
Finding good working teams in general, as well for a personal taste, is one of the cornerstones of Guild War. With 30 people in a Guild, you also probably can exchange opinions and teams with each others to find “the holy grail”.
The Leaderboard ranking, does not really seem to move. Funnily enough my Guild was again at rank#83 and I think last GW#3, we defeated already some people above us. So I expected to “rank up”. I guess maybe the leaderboard is borked on purpose because quite frankly soo much from GW is “missing” to make some meaningful moves and giving Guilds the tools to actually improve themselves, so if this is the case then I guess that is that until someone decides we can have actual bracket movement again like in the frigging GW we had 1.5 years ago and which was working.
Even if we are “frozen in static” and do not move around, should we not still get paired with enemies roughly on our level? The first two days this time, it felt we fought some inactive cannonfodder guilds who quite frankly did not play in our league.
So I really would like to see our Guild move up and also get a taste of that better Morale Boost. And imo more importantly, I would like us to fight people around our level all four days. I know damn well we are not top#10 material, but I think we are good enough to deserve better then squashing some possible inactive guilds who do not even reach 20k points and stand no chance. We learn nothing from these encounters, and if they are not serious about GW, they probably also take no notes from the beating they got.
Another thing that really riled me up this time ties into “card stuff” I already mentioned in the past. Like I still do not see any actual value in downgrading Wand of Stars and Stellarix for Defense teams. ESPECIALLY when the new Chrys flower dragon is “unchecked”. Nobody here can keep a straight face and tell me “hey, that dragon is not as hard as Stellarix”. And now, to make matters worse, we also have the new Stormy Dago Boss from the soulforge, who quite frankly is totally broken. I can’t have Stellarix in Defense, but the instalkill card with extra turn+potion spam+ always being submerged+IMMUNE to everything including instakilling,
that card is no problem? Seriously? Either lift the “downgrade” bans from Wand of Stars and Stellarix, or start banning more cards.
In a related note, I can’t remember if we had Immortals to use the last GW attack teams, but this time relying on Immortal Furanx for Blighted Kingdoms was huge. And my own card was barely lvl4. I can’t even imagine what a full level 30 version with the weapon and buffs would do here s attack boon. We have seen Immortals also in Defense all along. Hell, Glaycia might be the most popular from the first Seasonpass which a lot of people have “high leveled” and she is a stinkeye card when showing up in blue Kingdom Palace. The main problem here is that these Immortals are clear “Pay to Win”. Because without buying the seasonpasses to get them to level 20+, the RNG with chests is taking forever. It might be wise to overthink the Immortal use in Guild War to some degree as well. Because kinda as above with Dago, some Immortal cards are pretty powerful and I really can not understand why Stellarix gets treated like the punching bag here, if people can unleash their level 30 Immortals in Defense no problem. And yes, this will get worse the more time passes and the more even the average players (like me) will level their Immortals each season through new gained chests.
I read in the past somewhere that Patch 8.8 apparently might try to bring whatever change to GW. I seriously hope you get your act together here. Its like five months of new GW, with only four actual GWs to show so far but it just gets more frustrating the more time passes while basic core functions from old GW are still not yet here.
this is not a great gw they made for one thing they should of called it kingdom wars b/c you can only use the troops in one kingdom and they made it so that the def teams can be out of kingdom which dont make sense this new gw concept is a little like arena. gw should be use of any troops for attack and any for def by fighting against other guilds you still trying to protect your guild the way it is now with restricting the attack team yes its difficult but i dont see at all where it would help newer players. b/c a lot of low levels dont have all the troops for each kingdom . i really believe they should rework the attack teams and defense team but keep how we go to fight the palace
Just to address some of the ELO and Matchmaking feedback…
If I suggested clearing the Guild Wars leaderboards and starting fresh.
Everyone at the same score/rank etc.
Matchmaking is everyone vs everyone
Then everyone starts from the same place to build up the leaderboard again..
Thoughts?
Yes, start it over!
No, leave it as is!
I’m unsure either way.

TO BE CLEAR. This is not happening behind the scenes already. This is something I had been thinking on anyway since GW reexisted and wanted to hear thoughts
What about the leaderboard rewards & bonuses? LOOK, I haven’t fully realised the thought, I was just curious.
Maybe no Leaderboard for a few GW weekends, individual rewards stay the same, but maybe general Guild rewards for winning each day (sent out at the end of the weekend)..
Just asking cos, well how else am I going to sus out vibes on some of my whack thoughts and ideas.
I think this is one of those situations where the data for guild wars has to be “reset” to establish a much more clear indication of how guilds should be matched, rather than waiting months, or longer for the ELO scoring system to establish itself. It’s just that I don’t know if that would cause the game to explode.
So this is going to create initial pushback BUT it’ll get us to the fairest result in the fastest possible time.
Trophies are a measure if historical guild activity and NOT GW prowess. A vote to reset is understanding that, hey, for a couple months our opponents can and will vary wildly but, in exchange we’ll have the closest thing to a fair ladder system.
It takes more math than a forum post will do justice but the tl;dr is realistically under the old systems, we’d face the heat death of the universe before we had a top-to-bottom ranking based on skill.
The cream will (more quickly) rise to the top with a reset. It won’t be perfect. But for anyone afraid of losing their leaderboard spot and associated bragging rights, the ELOs are so far out of whack that you’d be closer to moving from 200thnd to 2nd than moving from 2nd to 1st.
It’s going to mske some people upset. That’s understandable. But for the good of the overall health of the leaderboards, it’s a slam dunk.
There’s still a lot of things with GW that this won’t solve.
I’m not sure how I feel about this but I love that you are thinking creatively about how to solve the problem. Hot take: it does not quickly solve the issue of battling way stronger or weaker guilds (although in theory we would get there eventually), and you guys would need to screen out all of the dead guilds prior to beginning.
Idea is.. the matchmaking and ELO is gonna take some time to settle and even out anyways
So, an idea that will also take some time to settle and even out, is not too terrible
I’m also in favor of a reset. The pros outweigh the cons as @RonMexico said.
Good point @Elfin. It should be easy to weed out the dead guilds beforehand but even if that does not happen, they will weed themselves out right from the start with 0 points they will drop right to the bottom of the barrel after the first GW.
Yeah agree - although I’m sure it will try the patience of many players who are already frustrated.
If you can’t get rid of the dead guilds, I think you will have a fairness issue - even though theoretically everyone will have the same chance of playing a dead guild, there will be guilds that advance more quickly as a result and people won’t buy into the results. Plus if you guys could do this we’d get a better ladder in place much more quickly.
