Guild Wars Going Forward

I would really like to see the final results of our guild and the guilds we competed against in GW available to us for review at some point the following week.

I liked the way the old guild wars worked. Our guild has been working its way up the brackets (very slooooowly) and that has been fun and challenging. We interact with each other the most during GW week. Definitely no additional battles - what was offered in the old system was more than enough.

I would also be open to changes because I am sure there could be some cool new things that we are not thinking about.

I agree strongly that there should not be the ability to pay to win. I also agree that the rewards are not commensurate with the time involved but really, it is more about challenging ourselves than the rewards. And ofc bragging rights  We won’t have the same sense of satisfaction if we think our opponents won because they bought a ridiculous number of buffs. The playing field needs to be level for this one.

I’m pretty confident that most people in our guikd would say that playing GW has made them a better player overall. Some people get stressed about it, some don’t - that seems to be an indiviual personality thing as much as anything. We try to stress that we just want everyone to play each day, learn and have fun. Some people are still pretty freaked out about potentially disappointing the guild. Managing how to play in a way that everyone in the guild feels good about is tough.

I do think that having a more clear and complete official “user’s guide to GW” would be helpful - picking up tips and tricks from guild members, this community, discord and streamers is such a hodge podge. It’s hard to feel confident that you have covered all the bases and there can be conflicting information that is hard to parse. So, either that, or a much more transparent, easier scoring system.

Hope this is helpful feedback.

I just find it interesting that it’s only the GW haters side posting clearly objectively wrong things like “Nobody likes GWs” or “GW is all about initial luck”.
The first statement can be proven wrong just from this post itself.
The second statement can be proven wrong from the fact that B1 B2 bracket guilds hardly change and their final scores show that most of the members win all or only lose 1 battles.
While people on the other side have different opinions on this matter, but they are fully aware that there are people who hate GWs and there is a luck factor in GW battles.

Here is my opinion on GWs:

What I like:

It does require a good understanding about the game, and it’s probably the only one mode in this game that does that.
People in an active GW guild will help each other, and I like that. It’s again the only thing that requires communication in the guild apart from ToD.

What I don’t like:

It’s actually more about the game in general, rather than the mode itself.
Many problems have already been revealed in the current pvp, like certain class / weapon / troop being too OP than others.
And then there is book which isn’t that big a deal in pvp since it’s still not good for attack, but does appear too frequently in GW defense and it gets boring.

What I expect:

Even though there are many things that I don’t like in current GW. I would rather GW comes back exactly the same way.
The main reason is that I know very well how much (or how little) your devs understand about this game. As I said, GW is the only mode that requires a good understanding, which your devs don’t have. So just don’t try to change it, especially don’t try your new “fun” ideas, they are never fun, for us.
If anything can be changed, make the reward a bit better and the same among all brackets: the average guild in their bracket can get their gems back, winners get more gems as reward and losers lose gems if they invested.
If people don’t like GW, they don’t invest gems on sentinels, so they don’t lose anything.
But don’t try to add valuable resources like books deeds in the reward, you’ll piss off all the GW haters.

If you restrict Def to color like Attack teams then not sure how you would ever get a Def win. They are few and far between currently with no restrictions. We already have guilds breaking scoring records as it is. The attack team already goes first so the only way that would work is if that was a 50% chance.

short reply for such a long post but… you think books are bad wait for all 6 spades (latest doomed weapons)

I would say it’s not much different.
It’s still the same thing, use empowered converter, if not possible counter their empowered converter, get your Zuul/Ctharrasque full before their hero, snipe hero.
If their hero gets full before you, you are very likely to lose with either book or spear opponent.

In fact, most empowered converters can’t convert gems to their own color, which means out of 8 troops, you would have like 6 same color troops, which is 12 gems created, the looping potential is not as good as book.

If the defense team use the two empowered converters (let’s say there will be more in the future ) that convert to their own color, those converters risk being frozen by snap freeze initially and then the main color is frozen, which is even worse.

The spades aren’t that good. They have a problem where they lose consistency the moment some troops disappear.

If the opponent is using a troop that matches the spade color, it opens up their team to freeze/ turn loss.

If the opponent is the only one of the color, matching your 4 troops, they’ll only make 10 gems, which is not that amazing. Even if they succeed and loop off that, the moment they kill off your first 2 troops, it’ll drop down to 6 gems created, which… not effective.

Then there’s always things like web, with troops like The Spider Throne.

Yeah… I wasn’t impressed by the weapon during the Wargare Journey.

  • Free event

I would like it to remain a free event without any boosters. We can see that the strategy developed is to recover as much money as possible through shops or to make us spend gems by baiting us with boosters or something else. Only thing we had was the sentinels which could be financed by the blue guild task. I consider that this was the only free event in the game. I would like to see any form of purchase by any resource disappear in this event.

  • Points

It would be good to come back to a calculation of 30 players.
To keep the weekly calculation system. It’s important to be able to give players the freedom to play when they have time. So I understand that in the majority of the time it will give an advantage to the flow of battles (big debate, but your position is clear on this subject), why not add 1 shiny key per daily victory of the guild in addition to the XP? It doesn’t matter where we are bracket 100 or 1.

  • Board

Could we have a fair board at the start of the game? We have 64 boxes, 6 colors (red, green, brown, blue, yellow and purple) and skull (basic ones). We could start with 9 gems of each (9 red, 9 blue, 9 skulls, etc) the rest would be random. This would give greater fairness at the start of the battle

  • New gems

Just stop. All new gems must be discontinued in GW. It’s up to the players’ choice and creativity to make them appear in the game. We have enough troops to do it. We don’t need you to do this for us.

  • Troop and class selection

Be clearer in building defenses. Many players are confused and take a long time to understand that there are 24 different units that color only has an impact on attack and not defense, that the hero’s class does not count but the weapon does. A little more clarity there. I would like to see a restriction on defense classes, which would be to not be able to reuse a class in a defense if it was used on another day

  • Combat report

Have a real combat report with different statistics such as: number of turns, damage given, troop killed, mana taken, harmful effects used, etc. This will give us indications on the behavior of our defenses without revealing the attack and we could thus try to improve and better judge our defenses. In the event of victory, reveal the attack, since our troops are alive, they can tell us what they had to fight against

  • Rewards

There are players who like GW and others who don’t like it. It would be good to take this into consideration and ensure that the rewards in GW do not force players to play this event with too many rewards which would have an impact on the evolution in the game. There is a choice which was given to guilds with manual GW registration, but you have a responsibility for influence. I’m in the GW camp but I totally understand the players who hate GW (but I don’t understand the people who hate GW and love the new PVP). Don’t force them to play this event.

  1. Guild Wars is amazing but I would suggest excluding troops or weapons that use all colors. Wand, Stella, etc. Using them on every day is kind of lame and waters down the thinking of how to succeed. Wand, Stella, empowered, empowered all 6 days.

  2. Zuul, and his brother from another mother (We call him Hellboy from Hellcrag) also have took alot of thought out of the game mode. Bl, R, P = Wand, Zuul. Win. BR, G, Y = Wand, Hellboy, Win. I understand why they are so strong as it took Power Orbs to craft but maybe limiting them to 2 colors or taking away their impervious so they can be froze and whoever is facing them can actually win. Kind of like the reason the journey loopers were nerfed, you wanted more people to win when facing them on offense. Why not let defenses get a better shot at winning facing Zuul and Hellboy.

  3. Books, I get the concept for guild wars defense but way way overused. Maybe limit weapon categories to 1 day. So once you use a book, you then are excluded from using other books on the other days defenses. Make people actually think how to build a team not just copy the Meta.

  4. Its not really a Wars comment but PvP, and someone they might be linked. Dont make peoples offense be there defense. Whats the point of creating a good offense if people then fight it and steal it? I get its a copy cat game and their going to snag good defenses that beat them, but now your letting them steal our offenses too.

  5. When its guild wars week dont put a ton of other events on. If people dont like it, fine its a laid back week for them, but for the people who do like it having Legends Reborn, Kingdom Pass, World Event, and Bounty during Wars weeks is silly. I realize the more time people put into the game equals job security but be kind and realize people were born to do more than play this game 24/7.

  6. Give us more submerge options. With all the dragons, cosmic dragons, and stella running around Submerge will be more critical then ever. The same could be said about silence options. Silence all on 4/5 matches, yes please.

Thanks,
TD

You/they don’t upset me. The only one seemingly upset by me pointing out what this thread is for and what not is you.

You/they are free to post whatever you/they want but I’m also free to post what I think. Sorry.

ETA: People who say they didn’t like it but also state what could make them like it aren’t the ones I’m talking about, just in case that wasn’t obvious.

Some people love GW, some people (most that I talk to) hate it. Let’s address your questions:

  1. What did you love about Guild Wars?
    – I enjoyed working as a team, as well as the challenge of playing against others’ teams. What I DIDN’T like was seeing/fighting the same meta teams over and over again.
GW has become a joke, with double to triple empowers feeding a powerful weapon/troop, and once it starts looping, there’s no stopping it.
  2. What new features would you like to see?
    – Some kind of restriction besides color, or at least limit the defense teams to the same color.
Better rewards for our hard work and stress would be nice, as well.
  3. How often would you like Guild Wars to run?
    – No more than once a month.

I may be back with more later, but these are my initial thoughts on the matter.

I think it defeats the purpose of owning all troops if you cannot use said troop. Why would I care to own Stellarix if I can’t use it in wars if I want. I think this would make folks not try to get it and stop spending gems or money for gems. I think the current restrictions are good. I think folks that like wars want it more challenging, not less. I think as I mentioned before having a wars that changes every time might work. For example, this wars no weapons allowed on attack or Def would be ok. Next wars could be another restriction like no empowered troops. You could have one with class restrictions if it applies to both Def and attack. This could make GW have some variety from war to war and make it more challenging IMO.

*What did you love about Guild Wars?- The fun of battles between guilds.
*What new features would you like to see?- Better rewards and the option that no guild can use the same team as deffence. (it would be so not fair to play every battle against stellarix, diamontina and wand of stars) Make it a bit like arena where there is no access to troops like that and weapons. so it is fair for all players to win and not constantly battle the same teams. Make restrictions like in underspire so everybody has ecual chances.
*How often would you like Guild Wars to run?- arround every 6 weeks in between campaigns suits me well

I Hope you guys can do something. I like this game and it’s so sad to see that it becomes brainless with troops like Stellarix, diamontna and weapons like wand of stars. Also would like to say thank you for asking our opinion!

kind regards Lady Alfhild

Why is everyone that loves GW not stating that the old GW needs to be (emergency) fixed and then take all the time and input from us to completely rebuild it.

I believe only the scoring is broken on GWs. So, redo that as easy as possible. Give us points for unique defense troops, matches won, not loosing troops and amount of turns taken. Forget about all other hard scoring logic.
O, and perhaps add bonus points for every defensive win. That would be fun. But please, please, bring back GW asap. Else all GW lovers will be gone from this game by the time you have rebuild it. It’s already happening, read the treads

please all whales in gow . please follow my example stop spending b/c devs only seek money now. I was vip 20 in just the first few mths I played. I joined gow in Dec. 2019, The game was real and exciting to me and others than. Now it is just never ending ways to get players to grind more and they made changes to pvp in hopes we spend more. Today we stop spending, We need to stop spending so Devs start listening to us. Instead of new ways of making money they should be fixing what is broken. Many players are quitting these last 2 weeks b/c the delay in gw its not fair to us whales or any f2p player. It hurts our guilds and the player base too. So stop the spending, Devs dont need it, the game dont need it. This used to be a free to play game now its a continuous broken game that the Devs are stringing us along with excuses.

I like this in concept but it seems like it would be extremely difficult to manage. The work it would take to ensure that 30 people were all using a different team for six days in a row would be way too much. And there would have to be penalties. So if a GM did all that work, and 1 or 2 members changed their teams at the last minute - how would they know? Or guild members are frustrated because someone else got to use the defense team that they wanted to use. I could go on.

And you can’t rely on the programming to do it because everyone in a guild might actually use the same defense team and then the code can only pull duplicate teams anyway.

Sorry to be so negative about it - I just can’t see a way this could work.

and i think now is the right time to stop spending:
campaign starts next week, all you whales have 10 weeks to get the pass, you won’t miss anything.
but i like to see devs appearing here on forum constantly at least from week 2 or 3 on, when almost no one bought the pass.
if that wouldn’t change anything, what does?

I love not having to play Guild Wars. The mode is dull and I doubt updating it will make it any better. Its extremely repetitive with everyone using the exact same defense teams. Its no different than normal PvP with how little variation you see.

No rush on bringing that mode back, leave it on the back burner and focus on something else.

because if they could emergency fix it, they wouldn’t bother rebuilding it

I’m going to preface with a disclaimer.

GW is optional for nearly all players.

You have a choice to play it or not.

As an example in our 12 guild alliance at least 5, maybe 6 don’t care about it. 1 high ranking guild at least encourages no participation and the others are finish battles. Of those they allow off colour.

So every option to play Gens of War occurs here and I’m sure there are similar situations across alliances on all platforms.

So because it’s so polarising, and it’s imperfect, at times frustrating, putting a feedback message inside an announcement is really bad. All it will do is change the narrative and bad news (for those that care) is being buried.

I think this announcement is really poor.

I’m not going to give devs my future feedback because I cannot remember one significant beneficial result from anyone providing feedback. We only have to look at the fubar of PVP.

Feedback should be in a separate thread.

Now let’s get to the issue.

Devs have decided that they’ve broken the game so much that they are now postponing guild wars til ‘later in the year’.

Which by the time that gets here, we may have had guild wars absent for a year. When it returns it could be in any guise.

So I’m isolating the issue to the top bracket guilds who play guild wars and mostly for guild wars only. Seeing as they are the most affected, but their loss will be felt by a lot more players.

The issue for those is they are mostly configured to play guild wars. So what’s the difference between guild wars in high brackets and say bracket 10?

In terms of gameplay, in bracket 10 you might get some random defences, you might get wrong colour defences and you might get convoluted teams that can’t win fast enough. You will get optimised defences, a lot of. In B1 it’s about cohesion and troubling defences in every fight. Btw book defences are so 2022.

Incidentally I’ve played more or less every bracket from 1-25 and most from 25-100+ either with alts or helping alliances or guilds.

In high brackets and specifically bracket 1, but I’ve seen it in 1-4, players will sometimes stream or record replay their games with watchers, helpers, lurkers.

GW to top bracket guilds is about getting together, designing teams, tactics, strategies, testing theories and sometimes even being ultra aggressive to get high scores, with the caveat that a loss is also very likely. It’s hard work and once a month is enough. It’s also engaging between guild wars, theorising and interacting between guild mates.

So guild wars involves people, making acquaintances, friends, maybe players you avoid all with the idea that you try and win, but have fun.

Other guilds seem to be more intense in their desire to win and also seem to have maybe a few more options available to them. We go for fun, try to win.

GW is pressure for all players really. There’s no mulligan and some of the defence teams and starting boards can really be devastating.

So guild war may come back, it’s said so, but it’s going to come back different. Guild Wars can’t have monetisation because it breaks it. Imho of course but we can’t have two tier guild wars, it would explode the player base.

The monetisation element of guild wars, and one of our best players (retired after this announcement, making our two best players going in the same week, was free to play), comes from buying campaign passes or other things, to get their account in shape.

You simply can’t monetise buffs.

So I fear there will be a lot of leavers as a result then, as there is now.

Guild wars liove or hate diversifies the game. You as a player pick your poison.

in the meantime what do guild war focused guilds do?

Every single time the game is updated, it’s further frustration that those designing seem to not understand how their game plays. Even the messengers don’t understand to convey the message properly.

So that’s why so many are leaving and more will follow.

I would suggest to the devs that actually you need to revisit your update schedule, and get back to fixing guild war and the PvP mode fully.

PvP is broken. It also broke guild wars. Go fix it properly and get players onside.

Look at all the threads. It’s not whining, in fact wasn’t the feedback applauded by the community manager? Now in the spoilers there is another mode incoming but the new one is bust, broke. It’s dying already.

Fix the content first! Go play it for an hour, try and count 15 unique troops in PvP zones in that hour. See how many times you fight the same 2-3 players. See the effect of blood frenzy. Go look at the junk options in certain areas. No logical play tested thought had gone into gameplay. The logic has been about this might work.

Why aren’t there opposing teams vs colours, red vs blue. Beasts vs Mechs etc. it’s same vs same.

The game is stale, it’s broke, it’s boring and it’s going to drive more away. Those that remain will be looking over their shoulders as more leave and less start playing.

I will actually add that even though our alliance has GW optional or GW no, as well as GW focused, we do have players in lower brackets who hookup on discord sharing just to catch up as friends, and play. We also invite players from all guilds, so the alliance passes on tips, helps players, who may go away with a new team or tactics, or we just chin wag. Personally part of the experience has been meeting people from other cultures, countries and just chatting about anything, which has helped us become a team, without any ranking, player status or hierarchy. Often with no game being played.

Anyway it had to be said. Good luck those that remain.
