Console devs, lets talk tasks

I’m not sure what you mean by “stay hidden” since they are currently active…

When the task system changes go live, it will NOT affect your current tasks. It will just change the system that assigns your NEXT tasks.

They can still appear right now. They will no longer appear in that capacity after the patch goes live.
Wild Plains will be available for a while before the new patch, so it’s not related to either of those timings.

“Hidden” was just meaning that the system that assigns the task shouldn’t pick “Raise a kingdom’s level” again once all kingdoms are at 10 because Wild Plains was the last kingdom to become available and there are no other ones (currently). Once more kingdoms are added, it may come back I gather if it’s part of the changes being made to the Task system.

But I wasn’t meaning that the task would just disappear from the current list. Just that we theoretically shouldn’t see it again once all kingdoms are at 10, unlike before when Darkstone and Wild Plains were still waiting to be released.

I don’t think this kind of logic algorithm to verify your kingdom upgrades was built into the task system (that run on the client). I’ll bet you can get it stuck again. Mr. Strange can confirm though.

This is a bit tricky to discuss, because on the console side there is a lot of data present which is locked out for the user.

On the PC/Mobile side pretty much everything in data is available. They add a new troop - it goes live. We have a whole “present in data, but acts to users like it is not” stage that they don’t have. So it’s not clear to say things like which kingdoms are “in” a given patch…

But the simple fact is that even with Wild Plains at 10, you won’t stop seeing the level a kingdom task.

Sorry about the confusion on the 2 stones for 300 going away… I incorrectly assumed everyone knew that on PC/mobile 300 glory only gets you a single Traitstone. In addition someone made a comment that 300 Glory for 2 Traitstones and all the extras was expensive, so I let it rest.

The optimist in me would say “There’s another kingdom hidden in the 1.085 patch!”

The pessimist in me would say “Damn random task thing will stick me with that even though I have everything at 10.”

The realist though will just go with “Yay, Wild Plains is finally here! After all, I’ve been banging on the ‘I want Soothsayer!’ drum for how long? And I can still get 100 Glory for using 4 maps which I need more than anything else.” I’ll go with this one. Safe and fun, and this way I can still be pleasantly surprised by what comes next. (And I won’t have to feel like I have to wait on Traiting things until it comes up in slot 2).

Instead of thinking about kingdoms/patch, just imagine that a new kingdom comes on console about every month.

I’m more concerned about getting the top-end Troops and different Arcane stones than the same 6 over and over.

I hope between now and the update we get most of the older Troops.

And I can confirm, this is true. Here’s to looking forward to July’s kingdom, as well as any surprises that may come along the way.

This is exactly what I assumed (see my post above). Mr. Strange later confirmed it. We might have the client update before the next kingdom is released next month, this will include the new task system.

For anyone else reading this on console. DON’T immediately upgrade your new kingdom on task 2, wait for 2 AND 4, AT THE SAME TIME to be set for “upgrade a kingdom”. I know This artificially extends the lockout time but it is more efficient (more task 4 items).

Technically correct. If you wait to get both in the slot you can get double the rewards.

But for myself personally, I would rather have the +1 attack from Wild Plains as well as cycle through the various tasks in the second slot (free gem keys from Forge a Trait and extra Glory for donating to the guild) than wait for 50 battles and 40 invasions to be completed before maybe seeing the same task in slot 4.

Don’t forget that when you rank up the Wild Plains kingdom to level 10 you are boosting the AI’s attack.

Your are still fully cycling Task 2 with those guild, forge, etc. tasks just a slower rate. However you get FAR MORE total tasks by the end of the kingdom upgrade because you are also cycling all of task 4 as well! If you burn through 2, then 4 doesn’t even cycle once.

To each his own, If your locked, the point is moot now.

As for the glitch where the AI gets the boost too, that was shown to the devs so it should be fixed next update hopefully.

And yes my 2nd spot is locked again. Yes it was a personal choice because I like clearing things I can right away, and slot 4 has some of the longest, most boring tasks. Yeah they’ll come eventually, but I don’t want to wait on other things just to clear slot 4 out.

And for where I am in the game, the most important resource is Glory which slot 2 had a task for that and slot 3 (which never gets blocked currently) has the best task for that.

And I am in no way saying what you’re doing is wrong. Yeah it makes sense to double up as much as possible. The wait just didn’t work for me.

Yesterday, my daily task was “win 7 or more in the Arena”. I spent 9K to 10K (don’t really recall how many times i burned through this) never making it past round 5 (3 victories, ya’ll). Usually i whip through this because i also wait for the “Win 10 trophies” task. yesterday was not a good day for Arena and my blood pressure.

Yeah, that can be a frustrating task. I especially hate it when it comes up at the start of the week. With my limited play-time, I can’t grind PVP to climb the ranks AND do an arena run (or two, or five, depending on luck). It usually takes me two or three days to get my PVP rank up to 1, after which I can start to focus on other things for a bit. At least that one is a daily task which will be replaced the next day. Freezing slot 4 for multiple days when I don’t have time to think about spending a couple hours in the arena is not my favourite.

I’m re-reading this thread and a couple of your posts have me wondering: for new players that blast through the linear (low-level) tasks, what will happen if they complete all of them before they reach level 150? You had mentioned that they will be able to work through as many as they want to each day, but the cycle (high-level) tasks will be limited to a maximum of one per slot per day. Will completion of the linear tasks bounce them into the new system regardless of level?

Yes - I don’t explicitly tie task cycling to levels. So folks won’t break the system by going too fast. It’s actually possible to “skip” many of the linear tasks by behaving oddly - never opening a gold key chest until level 100, for example - but all that does is deprive you of a ton of task rewards.

Some of the linear tasks are now explicitly things like “Reach level 120” or “Have a mastery of 25 in one color” - so I think they will keep people engaged well past the old expected level cap of 51.

then they finally get past em… sigh at the 4/day limit.
