To make it clear to those who try and suppress the voices of others. I thought it would be a nice idea to make a central list of changes that have occurred in Gems of War thanks to a loud minority.
It scares me to read a bug report thread that a bug exists because more people didn’t report an issue so the developers misunderstood an issue that could of possibly been fixed in the last patch, but instead won’t be fixed until the next client update.
But when feedback of any sort seems to be an opening for internet trolls to shit on others…I completely understand why they would rather say nothing at all.
Hopefully this thread can empower some voices.
And possibly wake others up to the notion that it’s a 3 headed system. There’s the player, the developer, and the publisher. But the developer can only do what the publisher wants. Meanwhile the publisher is only going to do what they hear the player wants from the developer. So it’s a constant telephone game.
I’ll start with what I believe is the most infamous one and then let the rest of the community chime in.
The removal of Hero Class Changes costing 50 gems if changed in less than 24 hours than the last class change.
Sunspear’s 3rd Trait was changed from constant firestorm to +2 red mana per match, a la Corsair. Was reversed within a day or two after community outcry.
With Invasion and Raid Bosses reaching a point where all Kingdoms and Troop Types have had a turn, we’ve looked to what’s next for Live Events and how will this affect Gems of War going forward. We have implemented a new Event system that will slowly replace the existing events (except for Guild Wars), and that will allow us to expand on the Krystara story in a new way. This new system has been designed to allow us more flexibility in how we create and run events, so …
They deliberately kept quiet about this nerf to one of the few usable classes until the update dropped: they knew what they were doing to the playerbase.
As you all are very aware, we made a change to the Sunspear Hero Class.
We also know that not everyone liked this change. That’s normal - it’s the nature of game development that some changes and new features won’t appeal to everyone equally.
For context, when we were first made aware of potential issues between the Heatwave trait and the Firestarter Talent, we looked at potential fixes with the least impact. This is why Heatwave was changed instead of Firestarter, as Firestarter is in the Fir…
(There are more threads on this topic, but I think these are the most relevant ones)
Epic tasks were originally worth different resources than we see now.
Here are some cheeky spoilers for 4.7! We wanted to give everyone a head’s up, so please read on…
Guild Epic Tasks
We have introduced 6 new Guild tasks, Epic Guild tasks. These Epic Guild tasks are separate from the existing Guild tasks, and will not be replacing them.
Epic tasks will cost more than the base Guild Tasks. However the starting rewards will be greater value than Legendary tasks and the final rewards are only a little lower in value than a Legendary ta…
Someone will surely be able to link the relevant threads (maybe I will, if I find them and the time), and keep the train rolling (perhaps
@Mithran would like to explain chaos portal drops, or the recent Epic Vault Keys drop rates?)
The Troops weren’t meant to be in the chests in the first place.
They were only intended to be available from the Campaign so no one should have expected them to be in chests to begin with - which is why the bug reports were made by players receiving the troops - they didn’t expect to get them and knew they shouldn’t have received them so reported it.
The players who did receive the Troops from chests got 2 VIP Keys each - of value worth more than the Keys spent and with a higher chance to gain Mythics than the keys they spent.
Once the compensation has finished rolling out this matter will be considered resolved.
We feel we have been generous with the compensation. If you are an affected player and disagree with this we’re sorry you feel that way but this is the final compensation for the issue.
Players strongly disagreed:
For those that don’t know. When you “roll” a mythic troop. It first selects that you are getting a mythic troop and then selects which mythic troop you will receive.
If that wasn’t the case then every single mythic troop added to the game would increase your chances of getting a mythic. While the other 5 troops added a month would lower your chances. Neither scenario exists.
I don’t have a degree in RNG, but I’m getting sick of being told how players are bad at math when the devs keep indica…
Imagine winning the lottery. Tiny chance, grand price, and you did it. There’s just one tiny problem, the party responsible for paying out the winnings isn’t sure which currency to put on the cheque. So they send you a new lottery ticket instead, better luck next time.
The new campaign troops, Shade of Kurandara, Heart of Rage and Kurandara made it into the chest drop pool, due to lack of quality control. Players opening their Monday keys from guild tasks stumbled into these troo…
And then their ‘generous final compensation’ changed:
Just a quick update on the wrong mythic being pulled situation…
I mentioned this on Stream, and said I’d reiterate on the forums. We sent out 2 VIP keys per incorrect pull. On top of this, the handful of players that did get the new mythic incorrectly will have a random mythic sent to them. We sent the 2 keys out ASAP, then waited until more people were online today to continue discussing the compensation. That means these players get the keys already mailed, and a new random mythic troop to replace the one that was removed.
…even if, unsurprisingly, they chose to reframe it as if they had been ‘discussing the compensation’ all along.
Not sure how that “loud minority” part fits together with the hero class change fee, feels like the whole community had been rallying for that for years.
There’s really a lot of things that come to my mind:
Legendary/mythic troops in forge changed from random pick to pool pick.
Faction pet kingdom assignment changed to count for linked kingdom power requisites.
Trophies added to most game activities.
Doomed weapon upgrade rework (mostly replacing exploding stuff, still incomplete).
Highest guild chest level bumped down to require only 40k seals.
Epic task rewards reworked, even prior to activating them.
Chest drop rates (sort of) added to the chest screen.
Multi-buy for the weekly event offers (my mouse finger is ever grateful).
Guild guardian drop exclusion from guild chests on reaching 4@mythic.
Guild Wars scoring changed to only take the 27 best member scores into account.
Interface improvements for the campaign.
That’s just thinking about it for a few minutes, there’s bound to be more.
(Not so sure about Scorpius, though. Does it fall under the same category? My memory eludes me.)
