If he’s going to “lead from the rear”, then don’t give him 2/3 traits which are only relevant after 75% of your team is dead - that’s planning for failure and silly. Do something like…swap out Armored for Arcane, leave the third trait but update the text to make the life gain on any skull match clearly intentional, and change the ability to something that’s based on magic, boosted by his current Life, and has some beneficial impact on all other allies. Like “Steals (X + Magic) Life from all enemies. Creates 1 skull, boosted by my Life (8:1)”.
Queen Mab is proof alone that giving Arcane to Troops that hit all is a bad idea.
Look, nobody plans to lose or a have a bad battle but they happen and Troops like Goblin King, Gar’Nok and Draakulis are designed to battle back easier
Emperor Khorvash
Crimson Bat
Valkyrie
Draakulis
Banner of Progress (Red/Yellow), Holy Banner (Yellow/Yellow) or Lion Banner (Blue +2, Yellow +1, Green -1)
Firstly: That’s a facile argument; Mab has higher base Magic to begin with and has a second scaling factor to her nuke (the enemies’ Mana) and can cast almost twice as many times as Draak due to cost. No, her damage isn’t True, but her first cast will probably blow away most enemy Armor anyway, quickly making that less relevant. Mab isn’t inherently proof of anything other than “Mab has a fantastic kit that synergizes well”.
Secondly: Would it even really be a bad thing if a Mythic was as good as a “good” Legendary?
Thirdly: My suggestion was set up to make his kit work as a “lead from the back” unit. Arcane means you want him in the back to give him time to build up; the current third trait would feed into what I mentioned for his ability; that version of the ability would be useful for strong and/or buffed troops above him. I’m hardly married to Arcane - it simply worked for my suggestion. I just want to see either a really good reason to put him at the front (where he really isn’t very good currently), or Armored replaced with something that’s actually useful for a back-line unit.
Damage reduction on a rear Troop is actually a good thing, especially for battles that go bad. Draakulis has plenty to “build up” as is from the rear. He should be 100+ Life and 40+ Attack and still have use of his Spell to kill AND heal.
Draakulis is a rear Troop, and the developers even took the players’ advice and avoided a third Trait like other rear Troops that ONLY works from the rear (Goblord, Orclord).
Unrelated … @Sirrian, what’s with the art on his ability? It looks like a chasm being formed between rocks or mountains. “Vampiric Blade”? Also - he doesn’t have Ghulvania’s splash as his background art either.
I mean, I don’t know what the vampiric blade is being used on a mountain for, if that’s what’s happening there. Still can’t actually see the blade in that image. I was thinking more like The Bloodthirster, not a chasm cleaver. Since its meant to be vampiric.
That could be an interesting alteration - like Gloom only potentially lethal. Of course then he’d literally be a Gloom/Bat hybrid, even the same colors. We know he needs something more though.
No offense to the development team but they aren’t as in-tune with how the game is played. They know how the game works inside-out, but HOW it is all APPLIED is outside their perception. It’s actually extremely common in game development, where players know the game better than the developers.
Can you use Draakulis as a front Troop? Sure, but you shouldn’t. He needs to “buff up”, uses (blocks) 3 colors and isn’t an offensive or defensive powerhouse. All of this means he’s better suited lower in the lineup, where he can buff up, allow Mana to flow and deal spread damage like a support Troop.
