Mmmmmmm Draaakulis is seriously underwhelming to me… Crimson Bat is hands down better, for the many reasons outlined above.
If he’s supposed to entice players to spend resources, he needs to be a little better. Not crazy better, but better.
Either (1) give him something to do with all that life, like the extra split damage boosted by life above (but that’s too similar to Death)…
Or (2) rework the spell…
Also (3) a better third trait… Or keep that trait but have it trigger when any ally attacks (or clarify the language if it already does that) but do idea (1) so there’s synergy.
He also shares two colours with Crimson Bat - I’d like him tweaked so it’s more viable to use both.
Oh yeah. Another Red/Blue true damage to all enemies troop. You mean, like another Brown/Purple mass skull spawn troop (in the same kingdom as the last one)?
If his trait is intended to trigger on any skull matches, then that makes him even more schizophrenic - you’d want to keep him at the bottom of the stack, use him as a nuker, not a tank, and let the trait fill his health up as his allies attack. Then if it does get down to him, he’ll have a big bag of HP to work with. The problems with that are A) it’s completely contrary to him having an Armored trait, making it just one more way that his kit doesn’t fit together well, and B) it builds him around planning for failure instead of success, which is just lame.
Another thing about him that just doesn’t sit well with me in general is: regardless of Crimson Bat being equal-or-superior to him, the Bat is an already extant Ghulvania Undead who deals True damage to all, heals from it, and has a third trait that makes his skull matches more effective. Then Draak comes out…and is a Ghulvania Undead who deals True damage to all, heals from it, and has a third trait that makes his skull matches more effective. The fact that he’s worse than the more-common Bat is bizarre to begin with, but making him worse and neatly identical is just insulting.
Oh, and also - the Bat is dual typed (Undead and Monster), while Draak is only single typed, so on top of being worse head-to-head, Draak also has less team synergy. Just…sigh.
Change the 3rd trait to a % chance to summon a random undead on any skull match, boosted by Draakulis’ life.
Very unique, fits with a vampire king style lore (raising the dead), gives a purpose to having high life, and lets him sit in the back and fulfill his role
in this case, his new unique trait would push him into the first slot, making the summons only able to be spawned or fill up empty spots BELOW first spot. So the enemy would have to snipe one of your cards down first. So the chance of the trait actually manifesting gets pretty low (situation + %chance).
Tbh, the idea isnt bad, but i’d just augment his spell with the summon on top, instead of putting it in a trait.
I’m guessing they attempted to design Draakulis recognizing that people use Crimson Bat differently than expected… But it’s hard to understand those expectations. Doesn’t CB generally kill things so fast that there’s no real opportunity for it to do any tanking? And if for some reason he doesn’t kill them fast enough, he doesn’t have the life, armor, or traits to survive very long. I’m guessing Draakulis was supposed to fill the tanky role, since they accepted CB as a true damage dealer.
Also, let it be observed that the usual people calling for nerfs are instead calling for buffs to a new troop. Devious developer plot, or maybe classifying people as all-nerf or all-buff is overly simplistic and we should avoid doing it.
I agree with this…I don’t know that I want someone else spewing out summons.
I don’t mind him being similar to the Bat, but if the Bat is already solidly a front-line tank with greatly enhanced skull matches, then I think I’d like to see Draak as a complementary back-line nuker with team skull matches enhancing his nukes. Then he’d play nicely with the Bat (since they really should work together on a team, thematically) and still be unique instead of redundant. Let the third trait increase his Magic on any skull gem matches, or somesuch - making it “+2 Magic whenever an ally matches skulls” would make it a “melee version” of Arcane (and +2 instead of Arcane’s +1 simply because there are many more opportunities to trigger Arcane than there are for this).
Everything about Draakulis to me screams a “team leader” like Goblin King or Gar’Nok. If the battle gets down to the last Troop, you have a dangerous Troop (True Damage to all) with really high Life (his Life stealing) and Attack (his Trait). Armored would make him a lot more capable to overcome being outnumbered.
