Does Underspire “reset” after the end of the Kingdom week, or will player be able to continue it when this Kingdom week comes again?
Definition “fun” : look the players spend the gems
Well, depending on the rewards that haven’t been revealed yet, this might well end up as another class event. Meaning in this case that once you’ve crafted Diamantina you might safely ignore it, because there’s nothing worthwhile gaining that you couldn’t obtain otherwise, for less effort and gems. We’ll have to wait and see.
It seems like a decent underspire strategy might be to just beeline for the rewards you care about and not worry about the final dragonite payout.
For example, if you’re focusing on medaling troops, get the orb of glory (maybe there’s a major one on offer too?) and maybe the imperial deed, then call it a week. Could hopefully be done in around 100 sigils at 150 gems per day.
My opinions on some of these topics diverge a bit from the consensus above, but here goes a scattering of random thoughts:
I still would like to know which constituency was clamoring for more week-long Raidboss and week-long Invasion events. Because I haven’t heard from anybody calling for this, and I know that I personally don’t want it. I get the notion that we should have more variety in weekly events, but the reason it’s a problem now is because of the lack of creativity from the developers. They’re simply using the same handful of templates over and over again with little more than minor changes in between. It has me beyond convinced at this point that the people designing this game and the people designing these events (if they aren’t one and the same) don’t play this game. More than “not playing the game”, they don’t listen to feedback from those of us who do – whether that’s because it doesn’t get passed through to them or because they “know better” and simply ignore it is anybody’s guess.
On the other hand, I’m actually okay with more Journey. And if it were implemented better, I’m okay with more Tower of Doom. Probably because those events haven’t been drilled into us with monotonous regularity, and also because those rewards are (more) worth it than the other events. Especially Journey, as it’s the only realiable way for many of us to get large numbers of Deeds/Books in a short period of time, at least if we’re in an active guild that completes the event.
I’m okay with the generalized notion of “Event Captains” similar to how it works for Bounty. (And Journey.) But there are a couple of parts of the implementation above that I’m definitely NOT okay with. First, I think requiring the use of the new Doomed weapon for maximal scoring in the Tower of Doom is ridiculous, because most of those weapons are borderline useless or outright useless even when fully maxxed. Not that most players will have them maxxed, because even with the ability to craft Forge Scrolls and the introduction of Orbs of Forging I’m guessing many/most players don’t have all their current weapons maxxed out, let alone new ones as they release. Second, I think the idea that Journey captains are likely to be re-mixes of old captains (in the Chalcedony / Seekra / Todd mold) and those are problematic troops; combine this with the notion that Event Captains are going to gain extra power inside their own events and it’s simply grinding a “win” button rather than any actual strategy.
I’m much less okay with new restrictions on the Hero for many of these events. Limiting weapons to the “kingdom of the week” for Raidboss is problematic, because there are wild differences between weapon strengths based on the kingdom – some have several useful options, many have none at all. I’m even more unhappy with the idea that you’ll have to use the Doomed weapon for Tower scoring, because that simply makes the hero useless, but required for scoring purposes – you’ll probably see the Hero locked into a limited number of classes whose traits are (partially) useful and otherwise ignored. It would have been better to simply restrict weapon choice in that event to the color rather than the universal way it has worked until now in Towers (and delves).
I wish the Powers That Be would review these forums and listen to feedback on upcoming troops. At times, I’m seeing a lot of lazy design in troops and there are times I’m seeing a vicious cycle where a handful of new troops are exceedingly powerful (and the rest are useless). Looking at the near-future spoilers that are undoubtedly going to update after 7.0 releases?
Slughoarder may be the most obscenely powerful Siegebreaker/Godslayer we’ve ever encountered; compare him to Hellcackle (previous Goblin godslayer), Wazir (previous godslayer with a similar spell and even Toadsqueezer (previous Goblin-type siegebreaker) and it’s not especially close.
As I said above, I’m concerned that we’re going to get a Dragon version of Chalcedony / Seekra / Todd; it’ll trivialize the event but be a nightmare outside the event for anybody running into it. And if we’re going to have two Journey events every 11-12 weeks, I worry about seeing a lot more of those guys. Which takes a lot of fun out of the game if you don’t deploy a loop-breaker sort of troop all the freaking time.
I’m not yet sure what to think about Underspire, so that will have to wait until I get a chance to play it and see how little or how much I like it.
I am getting more than a little disturbed about the progression of things towards a point where it seems like the F2P and/or casual player is going to get forced out. I know there are expenses and effort to keep this game running, but forcing a huge chunk of the player base – maybe even a majority – to make the decision between spending money or lying prone at the foot of an unassailable paywall isn’t the way to go. Not when that hasn’t been the case for the first several years of this game. More than other poor choices by the Powers That Be, I think this is the one that contains the seeds of the destruction of this game; if it’s (nearly) impossible to remain competitive without spending real money and huge chunks of time, a lot of people will simply give up and find themselves another hobby.
I’m a F2P player and only care about the shiny troops because of the anchievements, before I was wondering if we could power up Dust Devil, Diamantina and other troops like Thrall but now that I know they are the ones that pick which troop will be shiny, I care less.
Thanks for the info. Based on what you’ve seen, are special rooms like gem dragons typically in dead ends, or can they be on the required path to the exit?
If the former, you could save your free lantern and all the reward battles until the end of the week, then double the rewards of the best thing you found, which would be some nice flexibility.
Thanks, I guess. I was just looking for a Treasure Hunt reward refresh and the fixed offers you promised awhile ago. Probably would have taken less time to do that.
I look forward to avoiding pretty much everything mentioned in this update because it’s quite trash.
Keep on keeping on, IP2.
Still no mention on being able to craft Gem Dragons A la Carte.
That won’t happen until 75% or more of the playerbase has D-Tina. They usually only fix things when we no longer care about the fix.
Gem dragons are always found in dead ends and have graphics that identify their lairs, so they are unmistakable once found.
Let’s see Chtarrasque recipes …
Probably around 8:00 ~ 9:00 AEST, i.e., five hours from now.
The Underspire hard resets at the end of every Kingdom week, as it is considered to be the same as any other weekly event (such as World Events) with that Underspire event expiring when the kingdom week ends.
That combination is not reassuring…
You would think this is harmless enough, but having all hero weapons available is largely what makes Raid, Invasion, and Tower of Doom approachable to players that haven’t been playing for 3-5 years. Why make updates for newer players then do something like this that locks them out of the game?
If older players decide to leave, and the up-and-comers are being kneecapped to the point of inaccessibility, who’s even left to play Gems of War?
After seeing Epic Trials, my confidence level about this statement is extremely low.
I don’t even want to be negative. I’m just tired.
15 million Dragonite and 200 ChMewtorite.
The only thing i got from this word salad is : we are making everything more hard and slower so you feel the need to buy more Tiers with real cash
I never really thought about that aspect until now. I remember back in the day they would nerf strong troops saying they wanted us to be more diverse with team building rather than just use Kraken all the time or Justice and Queen Mab. Now with 100s or maybe 1000s of new troops being added since then we keep getting game modes with only limited troops. Arena, Delves, Class Events, Epic Trials, etc
There’s a lot to parse here and I’m going to wait to experience some of these changes in person before judging them.
I will say that I think shiny troops/levels are absolutely awful. The only redeeming quality to this part of the update is that system of exchanging useless tokens to dust. That type of system should have been introduced for other aspects of the game ages ago.
We are two, at best three, version numbers away from the ultimate low blow: In-battle purchases.
“It looks like your troops are low on health. Do you want to spend 10 gems to heal them? Oh and about that nasty death mark there… we can help you with that too.”
Don’t pretend, you don’t see that coming.
