If you don’t mind, tell us about your run next week.
Here’s the fun part…
If you can consistently reach the end to get the Minor Minion Orb, you can save 600 gems buying the last 3 epic trial stages to go from Legendary to Mythic pet instead. (6 free + 10 from ET 1+2). Or, in other words, you can redirect 600 gems to the Underspire instead.
If you’re buying at least one set of Lanterns to double up on rewards, that means you’ll save 600 and have that spare orb for a future date. OR… you can just get the 6 free Shiny pets and double orb it from Epic → Legendary → Mythic, meaning you can divert the full 1000 gems to the Underspire. No one would buy Lanterns just for minor pet orbs, but if you’re getting minor/medium/major glory orbs and imperial deeds along the way…
All theoretical of course. I like the idea of saving 600 gems from Legendary → Mythic Shiny pet and pocketing the other orb for a rainy day.
Epic Trials will repeat at some stage, if you want to save even more gems you can wait for the next 6 free pets.
Seems like that’s going to matter for Zaejin and Hellcrag coming up.
Even though I do not play this cash cow of a game anymore (lurks in the forum quite often) I had to comment on the new gaudy troop UI. With the colors in the card spell and trait background WHILE READING THE TEXT its so hard to read now (for me). The armor and hearts are so small now you can’t tell if you are winning or losing the battle? The mana number not inside the mana bubble is just… why? I’m pretty sure there is more problems but its early morning right now and I haven’t had coffee yet.
On a side note, look at what real card art used to be when this game was on top of the world. Ah the old days…
The new UI would be a ton better if it fixed the above problems.
this was my map, the colored dots in some rooms represent the boss locations. 2 things were noticeable so far: gates always seem to have 6 rooms/ 7 fights between eachother and #2 I encountered high level foes on the long pathway in the bottom left, these fights had a higher level than the boss of its region, so I assume that a second rule for the map generation is that the rooms leading towards the boss room have a lower level than the boss itself
On this map I uncovered all rooms in every region except for the huge area at the top, it’s the only open end there is on the map, all remaining battles in the previous areas (brown, green, blue, purple, yellow) lead to dead ends
Here’s my map!
Depending on what you want, this mode is not as expensive as we feared. Premium spending is not required to finish at all, just make it quicker. If you’re lucky, 350-450 gems might just be enough each week, and that’s an okay price for all the dragon loots.
The important thing is to understand how path are generated, once you do, you can avoid the long dead-end easily and able to calculate where the gate and dragon room should be.
Personally, I will try again next week and see how far I can go. With knowledge of how the path work now, I’m confident I can finish it again with minimal spending.
For the reward, only writ is worthwhile for me, so I will probably still use the lantern right on the first dragon.
Just some thoughts:
Shiny Troops seem to be catapulting us towards pay to win territory.
The Underspire feels like they took our feedback on the Epic Trials and applied it to a new game mode we would probably be complaining about if it wasn’t simply better than epic trials.
Campaign was turned into brain-dead mode and Kingdom Pass changed, so it’s harder to complete - because players complained about grind, yet they then introduce two much more grindy game modes. Epic trials are the ultimate grind since they involve losing over and over for hours, and the underspire looks like a pay to grind scenario, where once a certain level has been reached, people will be paying to potentially lose battles if thus inclined.
I dislike it when games treat players like idiots, and I feel like this has been increasingly the case since I started playing last December.
i’ll try to remember. we need to pool a dataset toegether for folks to have a good idea of what to expect on average.
Question would be if those 600 gems will get you to the final dragon.
One big issue I see is that you need to invest right away or else you may end up short. And then you may up spending more than you would have needed to.
Would be nicer if we had the sets accumulating so to speak and then we could invest Sunday of we needed to. What I mean by that is that we have a cost of 50, 100, 150 and then back to 50 accumulating over the 7 days if we don’t buy anything
But that would be too player friendly of a design.
In all honestly, if the game looked like this when I started playing, I would’ve quit 5 minutes in
The new layout has a neat concept behind it, it needs a few tweaks (font size made bigger, no more green numbers on green or red or blue background, or yellow numbers on yellow background - one pixel black border is not enough to make it legible), the worst issues that make the entire thing just horrible, and toning down on the crazy disco unicorn rainbow poop animation hell) and it will be decent. Different, sure, but decent.
Ahh flash offer $50 for 1300 gems. Lol. I see the the real reason for the underspire now.
Fun fact: So far in the lifetime of the game, there was only one month, when there were more negative than positive reviews on Steam (October 2017; the infamous graphics upgrade).
Three days after the release of 7,0 it looks like July 2023 could repeat that.
This is a bit more than “the usual outrage about every change”.
I was able to get all the way through the underspire in 4 days buying all 3 torch packs for gems. Or I should say almost all the way through. With my final torch I matched up against the final boss. Because I was using remote play to my xbox account, I couldn’t see the stats on the troops (I can’t wait for 7.1, I hope its next week). Diamantia is quite powerful and part way through wiped out 3 of my troops at once. Well at least I still had a Ketras right? yeahhhhh, filled my mana, but took a skull first, forgot about his skull reduction and he matched gems, into a free turn, into a free skull drop and killed me with less than 10 life left. So now I get to finish tomorrow… I love gems of war…
Aside from that, we should all post our finished map screenshots for comparison. I’m glad to know in future weeks I can probably just spend 50 gems a day instead of 300. Since I am now going to cash in 2 million glory all weekend so I have more than the 147 gems I am down to right now…
Actually, I think it’s just the case of someone looking at the shameless money grab that is Diablo Immortal and thinking “hmm, this is giving me some ideas…”
I’ve not played Diablo Immortal. Is there something specific they’re taking from the game in Underspire? It seems to be following the standard dungeon crawler type game. Is Diablo Immortal just very heavy on microtransactions and an energy system?
This is what I do with shiny pets each week - get them to legendary and then use a minor orb
@TimeKnight Hey congrats, great run! I had one zone that was 32!
Thanks so so so much! 6th miniboss was indeed beyond final boss room, so I got thru without paying for that last keystone.
Well…
First thing, is it just me or are others also seeing this:
Before the update there was only Loading Assets progress bar, after update that Logging In thing appeared right in front of usual Loading Assets - 2 different accounts on 3 different devices, so it’s not my imagination.
Of course, I can’t say with a hundred percent certainty because I haven’t measured with a stopwatch but it feels like game takes longer time so start now than it did before the update.
Secondly, missing images seem to be sorted for now on my mobile, but it didn’t happen without a long winded story to tell. Sit down around the campfire, kids, and listen up…
Summary
I went to Google Playstore and proceeded to update (since it never updates automatically on my phone) - the usual images (newest bounty troops and such) were still missing.
Somebody filed a bug report about a visual issue, this one, I think
[Fixed] 7.0 Broken Graphics
The fix was rolled out, game downloaded a small snippet of data when I fired it up to collect tribute and - lo and behold! - almost all images were gone without me even lifting a finger.
Almost 900MB of downloaded assets later there are no more missing images, but it will probably only be so until next Bounty on August 11 when normal service resumes.
Others have already said good and reasonable things about unreasonable changes to certain game modes, so I won’t repeat it again; suffice to say that I side with them.
People have already talked in length about the disaster that is visual upgrade and new look of cards, but a few breadcrumbs from me…
Functionality must come first and aesthetically pleasing (which is a highly subjective matter in itself, so what devs think is aesthetically pleasing is not necessarily what players thing is aesthetically pleasing) should always take back seat. I’ll take ugly card with with the information I need readily available over Mona Lisa that gives me no necessary information.
Fortunately, new look does not cause me health issues and I can even see stuff (on mobile and laptop and desktop) but it is much harder to follow and discern necessary information than before the update.
Things that, at the very least, must go as soon as possible:
- That blue flashy abomination when troop is ready to cast - everybody already knows that troop is spell-ready when the image changes from portrait to spell picture. There is absolutely no need to shove constant annoying blue animation down our throats. Maybe the devs enjoy living in a stroboscope, but I sure don’t;
- Mana rainbow background for spell descriptions;
- Mana rainbow sidebar on the cards;
By the way, this Reflect effect on enemy team is really something:
Perhaps your professional internal testing team (we’ve been told repeatedly that you have one) might spend less time on Australian holidays and more time on their pay-job?
P.S. Dang, almost forgot the most pathetic thing now - trait diamonds.
Unless you know all trait of respective troop by heart (and, by extension, all traits in their correct order for all troops), those diamonds provide no useful information whatsoever.
If before update we only had to memorize some essential pictures (for example, Stealthy, Impervious, Eagle Eye, Godslayer) to assess situation with a single glance at the enemy team, after update we might spend whole day staring at the enemy team still would be none the wiser - there is not a single drop of useful information revealed in those pesky diamonds.
