6.9 Update: Trials of the Conqueror

Nope, still don’t like it, sorry

Respect but the old campaign tasks were not tutorial in nature, at all. Like… could a brand new player make a full kingdom team (with hero?) Only if they had unlocked the kingdom/class. Also there was zero guidance, at ALL, for newbies. That said… the trials may be more tutorial in nature, but they DO suck at that task.

I think the new trials would be an excellent tutorial if any of the dev team bothered to occasionally play their game. Most of the problems I have seen playing through my long ignored challenge/trials were due to stupid team composition, not so much the idea behind the mode.

Honestly all they would have to do is take a moment to to think it out and another moment or two to test it out. Buuuuuuuuut no.

Yes, they could have easily made a kingdom team and done explore 1, with or without a hero which would have effectively done the exact same thing as trials except give people a choice on the team they use, like everyone is asking for for trials.

Im not sure what you mean by zero guidance when tasks were explicit on what to do. If you mean which class for which kingdom then nothing has changed about that except the lack of choice to even use a weapon/hero.

The difference to me is the previous campaign tasks were doable already and had the options for every playstyle. Hardcore - i do all tasks regardless of difficulty or time consumed. Casual - reroll, i can spam low level explores easier than i can run 25 pvp fights. Paid - skip, not doing it.

Now you do pvp for example, which some people avoid like the plague or you pay to skip it. Less options, less accessibility. Were going to ignore the fact that the new campaign was supposed to eliminate the specifc game mode requirment of some of the old tasks by the way. Of course you can say its easier now and you don’t have to think about it but i would argue that its more engaging to use different troops with different parameters outside of the usual handful of troops everyone uses to speed click through the game.

Well since it’s been 3 nano seconds… maybe give it a minute? Speaking only about campaign changes here… the trials need to die in a fire.

Anyway, initially I felt like an animal suddenly out of a cage, like what do I do with all this freedom? Then I remembered how I had actual game goals that I can never make a dent in because I had to spend a dopey amount of time jumping through campaign hoops. I suppose if you have all day to play, that’s not an issue. But I don’t.

I will give you this, though, its kinda boring now. Like the old snotstone stuff. But I can do it in the background while I’m trying to get medals or move through my delves. I guess it depends where you are in the game. Although, I have to say I never needed those specific tasks to motivate to play. If I did, I would have quit a long time ago (because they didn’t exist at the time.) It’s a huge weird change if this is what you have always had in the game. But if you remember being able to work on your own goals, you snap out of the Stockholem syndrome and kinda like it. Again… NOT the trials. They suck completely.

I mean, zero guidance. “Do THIS” is not guidance, its a directive. The trials give actual guidance about game mechanics. They just do it TERRIBLY! Example…

Campaign: Do a thing!

Trial: This is how things work (Except this not how things work :woman_facepalming:)

So campaign not tutorial. Trial, tutorial fail. Subtle difference but its there.

Seriously. Trials…suck…badly implemented at the least. Campaign changes… a jarring change (ultimately works for this late game person, but I have agreed that I get it.)

Anyone want to open the can of snakes that is the Mist of Scales trials yet? (Switch Kingdom week up through today) The ONLY gimmick it has is Poison, literally the worst DOT in the game.

We have venoxia to deal damage and poison master to accumulate mana, so it is fine as long as u r careful and survey the board. For instance, venoxia doesn’t loop as well as beetrix or gobtruffle, so u can’t just keep clicking on it for an auto-win.

(As we all know, the developers pulled trial teams out of a hat with no thought, care, or remorse so…“lucky” pulls I guess?") Cheers.

The guidance from trials is equally incompetent by that measure. Use Burn to kill level 300 enemies (Blighted Lands) is not a tutorial either. Nor is it still a tutorial once you get to epic trials at all, by round 10, 11 for epic, the learning phase should be well completed.

I tend to think of most of the devs efforts as lackluster (at the best), or simply lacking any REAL effort to produce a quality product, including any updates or chanes.

Again, this was targeted for beginners at Tier 1 or 2. And yes, it ceases to be useful after Tiers 3-5 (especially Mist of Scales, Poison LOL is that right; or Drifting Sands’s LOL of one-shot spells).

I feel like I basically said that?

Bottom line, I think we agree that trials suck by any measure. As an attempt at a tutorial they suck mainly because exactly zero successful players would ever play in the instructed manner, using the provided troops, or without using their hero. Fail fail fail.

We just can’t seem to agree on the old campaign pass versus the new one. I don’t miss the Monday morning “bell-work.” I never saw the game-play value in the old tasks, that you apparently saw. The new tasks are not full of game-play value either, for sure. They just allow me to complete them while doing what I want to get accomplished in the game. vive la différence.

First the campaign got less painful and now I’m doing the kingdom pass again after a long break. Be careful, because people in our guild are already starting to think the game is getting more enjoyable again! Well… Trials being a little sidestep but…

Because I guess I have to say something nice right? Well, Adana has always been a really good kingdom. The trials weren’t horrific. It took a guildmate to convince me to try it because I wasn’t going to even touch it. I’m looking at this as a cool-down mode.

add a P4NTH4 on each Kingdom please :innocent: :innocent: :innocent:

When what you meant was…outside of getting pet gnomes no one plays PVP anymore due a litany of reasons. So you’re going to push people to play PVP in hopes of not being told to rework it and break it like you did with Challenges.

Just came to say I’ve begun to hate the new campaign.
PVP is my least favorite mode, and yet it feels like the new campaign wants us to win 20-25 matches a week. Campaign is now a grind, not an adventure.

Not buying campaign pass this time.

You can still get pet gnomes in pvp? The appearance rate for me is atrocious.
