Why do I get the feeling this is a good idea of an update executed very poorly?
Great quality of life requests were added to the soul forge, but its locked behind yet another new currency that is extremely rare and inconsistent, making those qol requests meaningless.
You’d also never use get to use those features, because unlocking the required tiers to get them also uses that same new currency. (or shell out gems. whoo boy gems are free mirite)
Cool, I’d love to convert my medals for an overpriced cost, but I can’t.
Realistically, the recipes could replace “Cursed Runes” with “Shards” and still get the same desired effect without timelocking players out of using features indefinitely.
As for unlocking the Soul Forge, “Cursed Runes” could have been replaced by “Diamonds” and obtained the same results.
Couldn’t hurt to build upon features in the game already instead of reinventing the wheel every 3 months.
In other words a complete and utter dumpster fire. Have the 3 days you can actually get a few of them in middle of week when most folks work. Eventually they will make the resource easy to get but by then they will have moved on to another very very rare resource.
Well, it doesn’t look like any kind of celebration, at least for me.
I’m frustrated by the amount of time I’ve had to waste in explore, without seeing any cursed gnome.
I’ve been aggregating data people have been posting here and on discord regarding the Cursed Gnomes. Based on that data the appearance rate seems to be around 1% during the “boost”. This is utter nonsense, it would mean that after the boost well be lucky to get 1 Cursed Gnome a week of normal play (not grinding hundreds of battles per day). And this is made worse by the fact that the gnome can drop a VK instead of runes (instead of ontop of them)
I rarely resort to presenting solutions to developers since its their job to come up with good solutions, not ours (ours is to point out the issues), but in this case I’d actually like to provide a few suggestions to make this very unique gnome actually work and provide its intended crafting materials:
change it so the gnome always drops runes, a VK should be a random bonus reward
make the base spawn rate 0,1%, increased by 0.1% for each battle it didnt spawn it, with a reset to 0,1 again after its spawned (assuming the spawn rate for this gnome is separate of all other gnomes, of course)
make the gnome a guaranteed spawn in EpicVKs, would actually increase their value, considering theyre near useless now
This way most of the complaints should be void, the gnome would provide its rewards frequently enough, while still not being too frequent assuming normal play
I liked the idea somebody else posted on the forum, get rid of the minor trait stone drop and make those be 2 runes, still would be RNG on getting that drop and not overpowered because of it while having the Cursed Gnome still be the sought after one dropping significantly more, also I feel the Treasure Gnomes 100 and 500 souls drop should be writs of a small amount as we need 5500 PLUS runes if we ever want to level the new weapons costing 33000 writs upon the many doomed weapons that we likely don’t have all maxed out, that or they should at the very least change the crafting recipe to something using mythic ingots or something not extremely rare on top of the already extremely rare Runes.
EDIT: It was Magnusimus that I saw the trait stone change from, wanna give credit to the OP for the good idea
increasing rate guarantees a drop after a certain time…with a 5% fixed spawn rate you can get unlucky and not get it in 200 battles (despite that being improbable) and have a feeling you wasted your time…with an increasing rate eventually you will be getting it 100% (= you can calculate your exact worst case scenario in which a failure isnt possible any more)
to clarify: while the solution above might seem odd, with such a small chance and small increase, it actually gives you a 50% chance to encounter the gnome by your ~40th battle in a day…and virtually guaranteeing the gnome by your 100th battle (and for this you would need to be extremely unlucky), hence you input more time => you get what you want with certainty…i was trying to provide a solution for everyday progress, not helping those who can grind 500 battles in a day for days on end
regarding epic vault keys, its subjective…what youre saying is certainly true for a certain amount of players, but not for the large majority…creating a perfect solution that will satisfy all edge cases is nigh impossible, creating a solution that will satisfy a large majority, while having edge cases is a lot easier to achieve
I dont mind a rare drop where it will take active players multiple months to achieve something with intense grinding, only during vault events for example like this.
But the droprate was good on thursday, with vault event active and increased chance. The day before not so much.
I think the boosted thursday rate should be the normal rate in vault weekends
grinding a ton for curse gnome and at the same time game is so laggy, cause of servers and also cause of new respond code really brings back all the joy to GoW.
thank you devs
There is no way this happened on Xbox. Increased chance has historically shown up for me as at least one appearance in an hour of fast explores. In approximately 800 battles this week I’ve still only had 3 Cursed gnomes appear.
My tolerance for grinding is an hour. If I get no results as promised, I shut down the game and go play something more fun.
This release could have kept my attention all weekend, but you missed the Cursed gnome spawn rate mark by a lot and my attention and $$ moved elsewhere for this weekend.
