Why Do Guilds Care So Much About Trophies, Guild Wars, and Seals?

“ Why do guilds care so much about…?”

8 years ago, I was the guild master for the Alliance, which was the 3rd highest trophy guild on xbox. The first thing I did when I took over was to remove the trophy req. Once you hit 1.6 mil trophies, all the bonus are the same for everyone. I used to mock the other 2 guilds above me and let them know their players will burn out. They were angry at first. Years later, the top guild gave up their trophy requirement and the 2nd highest still feels the need to maintain top spot. They increased from 1 guild to 4 with their top trophy players on the top guild. They want to brag they are number 1.
Seals might matter on the week we get a new mythic, for players who want to save gem keys and use seals to get the new mythic. Otherwise, the purpose of having a seal requirement is to make players play the game and not get lazy and quit. We don’t have a seal req at the current guild.
Guild Wars was always the real deal. We get the opportunity to show how good we are. I been in tier 1 bracket since day 1 of Guild Wars. We are always top 3, which is 500 to 1500 gems. There were a few times where we got 2x gems because of some glitch. That happened to us at first and second place, which means we got 3000 or 2000 gems. We used those gems to usually buy dragonite or to max out kingdoms with writs or deeds. This was before the pvp update. Players like me had a huge head start, but we were spending 10000k + gems. Getting first and sometimes second is a lot of gems for us. On xbox, the current guild I am in got first 7 of the last 12 guild wars and the other guild got first 5 of the 12. Currently, we are the defending champions until they bring it back

It’s all street cred like previously stated. I’ve joked that there are three Triforces for each server:

“Triforce of Wisdom” - most trophies (shows overall gameplay/longevity)

“Triforce of Courage” - most guild levels / gold donated (shows collaboration/sacrifice)

“Triforce of Power” - Guild Wars Bracket 1 #1 (shows strength/domination)

Y’all took Power right before we resecured Courage (which is now as safe as Wisdom) and then GW went away so I’ve never been able to use this lol…

In my guild, trophy requirement is not too high, mostly used for measuring activity lvl, but always in combination with other reqs. Nobody gets booted for failing only the trophy req, it is more that failing the trophy req more than occasionally is a warning sign that the player may no longer fit the guild, and will start failing more important reqs soon.

As for GW, that should be fairly obvious, the result is a team effort, players that do not contribute to what that guild considers to be minimum req for GW impact the team score negatively and will not fit the guild.

And why do people care about GW? Not because of the material rewards, but because of the challenge and the guild cooperation.

I dont care about trophies AT ALL.

I just care about Gold, i literally dont know what trophies do 9+ year player.

I don’t think it’s the case of tables being equal. We’re not playing chess here against the opponent in real time, where pure skill is what gives you a win. It’s a match 3 game, where you’re dependent on luck on how the gems line up, and you have no input in that. It happens all the time that you play the same team against the seam team, and you wipe them out or they wipe you out just depending on if you get or don’t get one good match, and it’s RNG. Basically, it depends on who is the first to fill up the troops that will wipe out everything. You can’t control that.

So you play for rewards. Good for you.

In the remote past my Guild used to bond over Guild wars, play together on Discord, chat and have fun.

We have lost players to the sheer boredom and mind numbing grinding of the game and had to merge. And we’re loosing players again. You don’t want your guild to lose players, do you?

The tables were absolutely equal though. And as I said the challenge for most of us in our guild was coming up with strategies to ensure we won. Luck did have a role, but we very much avoided relying on it at all, it was too likely to bite you in the ass if you did. Instead we devised counters to the other team. And without bragging but if luck had much to do with it then someone else would have finished top on bracket 1 for the 2+ years solid that we did. I know other guilds tried their damndest (shout out to Nemesis here) but were never able to quite get there.

You say it’s not chess but we literally had a saying which was “play chess not checkers”. You needed to look at what your move might leave the opponent if you were at the point where you weren’t going to be able to get an extra turn. Sometimes what looked to be your optimal move would in fact suck because it gave the opponent a chance to do something. And on B1 you don’t get any mistakes. At all.

As far as bringing our guild together, that’s literally what it did. That’s how myself and my good guild mates bonded.

We did exactly that, and that’s a great thing to have in a guild. I’m glad you got to experience that, it’s what kept me hanging on so long after things went to ****. But we lost around 15 people in the last year, including the leader and a few ridiculously high VIP levels, not to other guilds but just left the game. That says something

All I said is that you can’t predict what gems will line up and IF they will line up. You can have the best counter possible, but if you don’t get to play it because the gems didn’t line up, or they lined up for the opponent, it’s not worth much, is it? And let’s not forget you’re playing against AI, which often doesn’t take opportunities that an actual player would never miss. I am not saying you and your guildmates didn’t play good and didn’t have good strategies, but you’re making it seem as if you were Magnus Carlsen playing against Ian Nepomniachtchi for the title of world chess champion.

Magnus v nepo world championship is a win for magnus every time
