Whitehelm - Kingdom Pass Rewards not unlocking

I was moving along the free side (left side) of the Whitehelm Kingdom Pass. I got an option to purchase the Kingdom Pass Level for 100 gems. I expected this would unlock the Kingdom Pass reward for that level. I did it 3 times, once for level 43, once for level 45 and once for level 46. I expected to get the 3 Kingdom pass rewards, but I got nothing for my 300 gems. The rewards are still all locked but the gems are gone.

Paying gems allows you to buy levels without having enough crowns to reach the level yet.

When you say “Kingdom pass rewards” here, do you mean “Royal Kingdom pass” i.e. rewards from the paid side?

Gems can be used to unlock rewards that you didn’t get enough crowns for yet. They don’t let you get paid pass rewards unless you bought the Royal pass. They’re used to get rewards early or catch up if you missed some Battlecrashers.
