It says I gotta craft green summoning stones. Does that mean I gotta craft emeralds in the forge?

Not emeralds. The troops that you can make with emeralds in the “troops” tab.
So it’s a small emerald tax, since you won’t be getting them back in the rewards from the campaign itself.
