Gargoyle
Arcane Golem to tank, and because his spell will boost his attack and can provide a modicrum of board control (or enemy stuns) when used appropriately.
Hero as exploder/summoner/buffer; if necessary, can change to Elementalist later.
Solarithus as the heavy hitter.
Gargoyle as backup damage-dealer and absorber of Red mana, plus he grants the ability to deal large amounts of damage to submerged enemies. (Which happens every so often, even in Underspire.)
I thought about using Silent Sentinel as my tank, instead. But I find adding Life to be less helpful than adding Attack and Arcane Golem is better for board control because (I believe) you actually have more control over the outcome. It leaves Solarithus double-mana blocked, but I’ve determined that I’m willing to put up with that.

For those without Solarithus, don’t forget the classic Ethereal Sentry + Gargoyle combo from Whitehelm’s Faction team. Just make sure to keep your Armor up (watch for enemy Skeleton Knights in certain rooms) and you’re golden.
