Were you dealing damage somewhere, at the same time? If so, it might have dispelled the submerge, then triggered the trait and added submerge back, immediately.
That’s the only thing I can think of.

Not Mana Burn, surprisingly. Or Charm, which Bless is immune to.

Dispel is an action, not a status effect, so yes it works.
It’s similar to the difference with Cleanse vs. Bless (e.g. if an ally is afflicted with several statuses including Curse, Bless only removes the Curse while Cleanse clears everything).
For Godslayers with a Boost Ratio effect on their damage, the boost is calculated before the Godslayer multiplier. Examples:
- Earthcaller: boosts by own Attack/Armor/Life
- Halfgrim Half-Giant: boosts by own Life
- Lady Garnetia: boosts by own Armor
- Lion Commander: boosts by all Ally Armor (similar to Pride Guard but Godslayer)
- LOCK-1887: boosts by enemy’s Attack
- Lord Ehrondil: boosts by enemy’s Mana (basically, Mana Burn by another name)
- Night-slayer: boosts by enemy’s Life (albeit 5:1, ugh)
Also, some Godslayers are Stealthy and thus pair well with a summoner Troop:
- Hellcake
- Night-slayer
- Umbraxis
A few other fun troops generally:
- Arcanus: Dispel, damage, self-enchants
- Vlad the Unsated: Boosts by own Life, then steals enemy Life
