This is Getting Ridiculous

Sure, I get it completely. There’s even a good argument in the game’s fiction / lore to support your view. I don’t necessarily even disagree / or agree to be honest. I just think it’s interesting.

Mercy is from Whitehelm, it’s the kingdom of faith (knights, paladins, priestess, dragon and white castle to boot), as noted in game…

Infernal King is the leader from Blighted Lands (a nefarious name indeed), it is the kingdom of the Abyssal realm. It’s the same place we find Hellcat, Hellhound, Succubus and Heral of Chaos! “Aaarrrghghh!”

Perhaps Twisted Hero from Blighted Lands, is really just an undead lost soul looking for a kingdom to help? Perhaps Infernal King, the never dieing is keeping some otherwise foul folks in line, protecting men of other realms, as he has been tasked by higher ups… perhaps the Succubus is Mercy’s long lost cousin? LMAO… a strech, but just BS’ing here.

…and yet, Lady Saphrina, a notable vampire… and Moloch, one of the game’s strongest Daemon’s, are both also from Whitehelm - and both too work really good with Mercy… go figure, gem’s of war fiction irony!

Let us not forget that the fabled 4-horseman of the Apocalypse, come from a kingdom named just that - Apocalypse. Hungh… maybe there are far worse places than Blighted lands? Things that make you go hmm…

Perhaps it’s not all as black and white as we might think. Designers seem to intentionally blur the lines between good and bad, one kingdom to the next, etc. They do not go quite far enough to dress Mercy like a nun or even a Priestess… and blighted lands are not necessarily Christianity’s Hell… but, an Abyssal realm of perhaps something else?

My guess is it all goes back to your other point. It’s just a game. We apply our own fantasy’s to what should and should not be… but in the end, it’s just a fictional game. There is no right or wrong (my point).

What’s probably more a conscious decision is that it is a legal Intellectual Property and they blur the lines in a number of ways to avoid copy right suits, infringement suits and I’d bet intentionally avoiding things like “heaven / hell / Demon (no a)” as it gives them an argument against a great many vocal groups hell-bent on destroying a fictional world with their opinions, theology and ideology! Owners of this IP have an interest in blending the lines on their otherwise fictional universe, to protect themselves from various legal type law suits for appealing or aligning to hard one way or another with any religion, despite it being a pure fiction.

Thus, your / my / someone else’s fantasy interpretation of the fiction is as good as the next. I’m sure someone out there see’s Mercy as a lacivious harlot fallen angel working her way up the ranks with whatever she has at her disposal, including the money maker momma gave her.

I say, it’s a game, have fun, and to each his / her own.

PS - good discussion, I enjoyed it. Im’a let the powers that be get back on the ‘nerf stuff’ topic as I didn’t want to completely derail. Besides, the 4th horseman is right around the corner and there’s not much time for hate on Maw turns to hate on Deathmark! Hah!

Like I said, my interest here isn’t necessarily making the game conform to MY idea of how things should be.

I’m looking at it from a mechanics standpoint - improving synergies, including barring certain cards from being used together, fixes a great many balance issues without ever having to nerf any individual troop.

The fantasy setting “friend/foe” idea is more of a way to justify the mechanic rather than an absolute request to make it that way.

I’m also not suggesting that this mechanic is the ONLY way to accomplish the goal. It’s merely one way in which I think we could placate the mob without having to nerf troops, which I hate, even if it’s Maw.

I have to admit, if Mercy gets nerfed because too many people are exploiting MAW, I’m gonna be pretty damn upset. That’s why I advocated this system in the first place. People should get rewarded for unique team combinations, creativity, ingenuity, and trying different things. People that spam Maw (or Mab, or whatever) should be punished in a requisite manner. That’s the ONLY way to ensure that the next Maw or Mab doesn’t cause the same issue (as did Webspinner previously).

I agree 100%. Nerfing is usually the worst answer. Incentivizing with other mechanics / reasons is always preferred to the player base.

It’s why I suggested kingdoms with pros / cons in effect and defense specific per kingdom. That way, defenders have a reason to change up defenses… and offenses have clear pros / cons to explore when attacking. It would change up the game, create reasons to use things like pegasus, centaurs, etc… and no given troop, webspinner, mab, maw - you name it… would be great - everywhere… and most importantly, no nerfs! Things can remain poweful with fast paced turns, in certain kingdoms.

That too is not the only solution, just one possible - which aligns with your thinking, incentivize change, do not nerf for perceived balance.

Another thing I just thought of, although I imagine it might be really hard to code, is TEAM traits.

Going back to the Mercy example, Mercy is type “divine”. Pair her with Maw and she works just like she does now. Pair her with Valor and Valk and together they all get “Divine Shield” which prevents them from being devoured by Black Manacles, for example. Or even better, “Divine Shield” converts True Damage to regular damage and converts “Devour” to True Damage. This keeps Maw more dangerous than other troops but makes the Divine team capable of standing their ground more often.

Sorry to necro an old thread but I just had to give @Sirrian and the Devs kudos for being one step ahead of me. I don’t know if this was an intended by-product of some cards getting multiple types but this is, IMO, headed in the right direction.

I stumbled onto this today…

completely normal for video games that have any form of vs mode players find what is op and run with it. its ridiculous if your maxed out with xp and cant find a counter for it though =P

it is not 4xx, but it is very impressive.

You’re totally missing Kerberos! The other Daemon/Beast. I’ve got him in place of Roc.

It doesn’t run great, but the stacked bonuses are cool.

Yeah that’s not a team I’d use or anything, I just threw it together right quick to show that teams made up dual-type troops get both bonuses.
