The real truth. Recruiting has become close to impossible

Sorry recruiting has been so rough :frowning: You are a great cheerleader!

but back to the topic at hand…

Yes, there’s not as many people around, but at the same time, if we lower the level requirements, there’s usually lots of people who join. The only issue is that they may not check out the chat or communicate in the main language of the chat.

I feel that getting people is easy - but getting people who match the playing style of the guild is more challenging.

Still I’m very lucky I guess in my guild in terms of recruitment - we’re still doing pretty good overall as a casual guild. Finished Raid Boss and got to the books reward level for the Journey. As a guild we know that most of the events are not worth grinding for or spending huge gems on, but we do pull together and get the important rewards on Journey events…but I digress.

Plus I think during the summer time people are outside more and September is back to school - I think recruitment will surely get better in the upcoming months.

Fingers crossed!

There’s quite a lot recruitment threads posted/refreshed today, so I assume a bunch of veterans chose this sunday to jump off the wagon again. Seems to confirm the spirit of this thread.
Currently the number of Steam players is as low as it was last in the aftermath of the 2017 graphics downgrade. I’m curious to see, if the downward trend continues, and at which point it starts to level out, with only us boneheads left, who refuse to leave before the game servers are taken down.

The first sign of real trouble in my eyes would be, when the company stops paying money on troop graphic commissions and turns it into a “community contest”.

How can you tell what the number of Steam players are? That’s very interesting information to have access to.

You’re right about the first sign of trouble. I have seen that in other games where they make the troop design into a community contest. It’s really a great opportunity for new artists, but it is definitely a bad sign for the gaming company itself.

We just lost two players this weekend due to time restrictions.

The alliance itself gained two newer players, one of which is super active.

There are so many factors making the game hard for players who either aren’t super into playing a lot or who can’t just leave things unfinished and are burning out because of that.

This is public information pulled from Steam data. Here: click-click

We had community weapon design contest (Scythie McScytheFace) a long, long time ago already, before I started playing. So it had to be over 4 years ago. Yet the game is still here, still alive and kicking.

Thank you @Dwuemka !
Based on these numbers, I don’t think we are doing that badly - there was an increase during the lockdowns and it looks like it is back to pre pandemic levels?

Yip, roughly. Home office is also becoming a thing of the past in many professions and areas, so many people can’t do double duty and leave the game running in the background for tribute, even though they aren’t actively playing

But we can’t know what types of people are hiding behind those numbers - how many beginners, how many middle-level players, how many are veterans/end-gamers. This info is not public. It might be so that end-gamers are leaving, but new players come too, the total number is the same, but the general feeling is that recruiting got harder, because there are so many players new at very low levels, and not enough “developed” accounts to go around to fill all the good guilds that don’t want to nurse a level 50 to 1000, because they are more competitive than that.

And, for all intents and purposes, this is still a mobile game, played much more often on Android / Kindle / iOS devices than on Steam - and we don’t have info from those platforms as we have from Steam.

Wasnt Mongo a community thing too?

Mongo was just the Gems of War team making a joke/tribute to their old Gems of War Mongo database that they used to use, iirc.

Shocktopus was one of the other notable community things.

Also there was that community vote for a pet thing…

I missed all the community things except for getting the weapon for free. I started January 1st 2020 and got the weapon in the mail, I think. Can’t fully remember. But all the voting etc had all been done already.

We have some data from Galaxy phones. This is from Samsung’s Game Launcher:

Might be dropping because of school starting again? Unfortunately it doesn’t go farther back than 32 weeks.

Interesting, that this one took no harm from the 7.0 update, but even had a little bump. I thought, the graphic issues would have hit phone users harder.

P.S.: Any idea, what exactly is this number? The Steam site lists and averages the users active at certain times. Same with this data, or is it total active devices (or even devices with the game currently installed)?

Hm good question. The Game Launcher app doesn’t say anything else about what they consider a ‘galaxy gamer’, whether it’s just installing the game or actively playing it. I can’t find any info about it online either.

And I like this guild - nice, easy and fun! At the same time - got stuff!

Steam charts saying lowest peak in 6 years and lowest average in 5 years

It really doesn’t surprise me, the player base in general has been completely ignored in anything we ask for, and we get everything we didn’t ask for.

About 15% downwards in the last six months (I assume, we can’t blame the end of lockdowns at this point anymore), with the biggest single month drop in july after the 7.1 update since 2017 graphics changes.

The game is at a point of its life cycle, where extended growth phases can no longer be expected; too old to draw attention in any other way than through personal recommendation. A slow decline should be the regular state.
It may be just my view, but at this point, from a development side it might be better to turn it into a thing of habit. Something that can best be described as “nice”, “break filler” or “does not bother me too much”.
It has been said enough times in this thread, that burnout is one of the main troubles. If the reflex on the other end of the screen, once the player average gets below some critical psychological mark, is to add yet more content, they will only kill it faster.
