Skulls with hats?

Sorry folks but since every country has his own holidays I would like to know why we have skulls with hats now.
Or are they the GoW version of the mad hatter? :crazy_face:

It’s Thanksgiving in the United States, when we celebrate that the native settlers of the North American continent helped European settlers survive the harsh winter so that later the Europeans could subjugate them and steal all their land. As consolation, we let some of them run casinos or operate loan institutions not subject to federal laws concerning interest rates or credit checks.
