I play GOW on both a computer (Steam) and on a fire tablet. If the game gets updated first on steam – which when an update comes out the first time you start the game it automatically updates, then in almost every case, I have to remove the game from my Fire Tablet and then re-install it, because if I don’t I get the “There is a newwer version of the game avaliable” error and the game will not load. I don’t have an issue with this, better programming would probably fix this, but I am willing to live with it. The reason I use both is because, I can use my tablet at work to collect collect hourly tributes. I have leveled my kingdoms up enough to collect over 30 Gems and $20000ish gold an hour. I can collect tributes between 8 and 10 times a day while at work – You do the math… Anyway, when the update isn’t released at the same time, I cannot collect these tributes. Of course the DEV’s always blame Amazon for not releasing the update when they were supposed to. As of now the new update for the fire has not been relased… This has happened alot in the past. So once again I ask, if you know it is an issues, why by LAZY and blame Amazon, why not take the resposibility and put something in the code that distigushishes the different platforms??? I hope that one of the DEV’s reads this and responds, since sending a trouble ticket in HAS NOT WORKED!!! Also if I am the ONLY PLAYER who has this problem then I will glady appologize, but I HIGHLY don’t think this is the case…
Ah, I have a similar issue. I play on PC and Android.
Sometimes the Android patch will show up an hour or two late, so I hold back the update on Steam
In the Steam properties for Gems of War, set it to “Only update this game when I launch it” instead of “Always keep this game updated”. Depending on how you launch it, you should see the game in a different colour before you launch it (the update will also show up in the downloads section). Or at least you might be able to cancel it.
Then, it’s just a matter of waiting for the update to release on the other platform. If I want to collect tribute, I’ll use my phone.

Thanks for the info, the only thing that I use Steam for is GOW, I didn’t know about that setting. But with that being said, I think it is a MAJOR flaw with the game, it may of may not be a major issue to fix it. But if you can’t play the game – albiet, only collecting tributes, why play the game. In the past this was a great game – it has been going down in quailty for the past couple of years. Look at all of the players who have been leaving. Not being able to get to the game is much more likely to get a player to leave, then not getting a new WORKING Guild wars system sooner rather than later??? Anyway, thanks for the information I really do appreciate it!!! BTW – I have a secondary account that “lives” on my phone, so that is not an option….
