What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened:
Second day in row I have the same problem: it’s enemy turn, but enemy doesn’t move. Additionally, both times I had magic shield, and it pulses twice fast during that.
Both cases have the same traits in common (aside of shield):
There is only one enemy troop.
My hero has Essense of Evil, and uses it on last enemy.
Enemy transformed just at the moment when it’s their turn.
How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
I hit it first time yesterday. Looked quite a rare case - until I hit it today.
Steps to make it happen again
No idea what exactly is relevant in that case, but I believe, only one enemy and transforming curse may be the key parameters. Last place on battlefield may be important too.
Are you playing on 2x game speed? The visuals for status effects (such as Barrier) animate relative to game speed any time the board is not waiting on your input (aka. during your turn). So we can probably rule it out as a contributing factor to this issue.
If this is specifically related to Transforming a foe, Transform can be tested in isolation via the weapon Dragon’s Eye. However, because you cast Essence of Evil and the opponent is not specifically a Giant Toad then the suspicion falls on the foe having Lycanthropy (which is also easily tested in isolation – but I doubt that is enough for this issue).
Do you happen to remember what the enemy was prior to transforming? Back when lycanthropy gems got introduced, there used to be an issue with the hero transforming. Maybe this somehow got patched in again.
I don’t remember, unfortunately. I am almost sure it wasn’t a hero, but theoretically speaking, it could be. In my instakill teams I always kill hero as soon as possible, but here it’s a different team… Sorry. I’ll keep eye on it.
Did this happen pretty shortly befor eyou made the post? If you could give me a rough timeframe from the time you created the thread I can go get a little more info from your battle logs.
If post have screenshot, then I made it soon after the issue (I never save screenshots, so it was in buffer). So date of post creation is the time of the error, maybe several minutes more.
This seems to be happening a lot the last 3 weeks a soft lock on essence of evil when a summon occurs at the same time. But it doesnt happen everytime but think it needs investigating.
Serious answer: you don’t want to know. This issue occurs solely on the clientside (everything in battle is handled by the game client) meaning that, assuming it can be properly sourced and identified, the fix needs to be incorporated into the next client update. (Or at best, a “hotfix” client update.) It IS NOT fixable by quickly changing a few settings on the server and pushing out updated content/asset files.
(Which kind of means we don’t need mountains of screenshots showcasing the softlock after the fact…)
I’m up for attempting to snag some footage – I play on Switch where (as a system default) it is always recording the last 30 seconds, but my first few attempts so far were unproductive. Lycanthropy alone isn’t a trigger (or this might have been reported far sooner), so I’m wondering if it’s a combination of Lycanthropy and Terror – there’s a calculated ~1.5% chance that they both trigger simultaneously (which could explain the rarity of incidents, if it’s actually relevant).
New question: About how many times would you guess you cast EoE during a battle? Have you discovered any softlocks occurring after only one cast?
Not sure how accurate your calculation is XD but looks pretty likely its transform and terror as its always occurs on last opponent there is another error when opponent flees and you summon in the final round so most likely its in the coding for terror…
I almost always use Essense of Evil from second to top to down, as much as I have opportunity.
The problem arises only on troop transformation. In 95% of cases it’s also a last troop. One time it was the third troop (only two troops remained at those time, and fourth was already affected by Essense of Evil too). But I seen the problem many times when there were troops above affected fourth troop too.
Taking into account the weird behavior of Horror, it may be the combination “Horror+Transform” trigger indeed.
