When doing my citadels gold mark bonus fights today I couldn’t do them in Broken Lands (Monster) bcause there were no fights to choose from.
How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
Everytime I open the Broken Lands Quick Battle.
Steps to make it happen again
Go to Quick Battle in Broken Lands.
That’s definitely a bug that happened to me as well. In the end I used a gem to refresh the opponents and was able to get out of that situation. It still cost me a gem, but it might be worth it for you so you can collect your Gold Marks. 
Thanks for the hint with the gems. I switched to mobile instead and there it worked normally (eventhough on mobile there is still the visual gold/silver bonus mark bug).
