It gets stranger. The gem is distorted in a different manner when you go into Invasion and then alternates between other distortions if you switch to the Overview tab and then back to the Fight tab.
When you go in. Guild > Invasion > Fight
Switch to Overview tab then back to Fight tab.
Switch to Overview tab then back to Fight tab again.
Moving to Fight and back to Overview then cycles between the second and third distortions.

I was clicking through screens quickly, and I really thought it was a new resource for a minute there!

As you can see, gem is got squashed.
How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
After some recent update, surely. It wasn’t like this in my previous invasion.
Steps to make it happen again
Go to Invasion and check rewards.

Just look at the screenshots. The fun is apparent, especially when toying with it using L/R.
Because this bug is fun (funny), I won’t recommend fixing it. On the contrary, I would recommend deliberately putting this bug into every event with gem rewards, for more fun.
