[reported] Assassin Vine Has Wrong Rarity

Platform, device version and operating system:
Xbox for me, but presumably all platforms

What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened:
I was expecting the new faction troop for Primal Rift, Assassin Vine to have Ultra Rare rarity, as was announced in the Balancing Changes topic in August 2025. All other new faction troops released so far in the current cycle have been Ultra Rare. Assassin Vine was released as Epic.

How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
Since the troop’s release on Feb 6th.

Steps to make it happen again
Check the troop’s rarity.

Just came across this too, all the other troops in the second expansion set have been Ultra Rare thus far, this now means that Primal rift has three epic troops, so this seems like a bug to me.

reported it to the team  unfortunately, as the troop has released and the event is live, we aren’t able to change it to Ultra Rare.

Where is the problem?

If the troop has already been medaled, will this be changed as well? Since it’s a different amount or type of medals (if you didn’t orb them)?!

Ever? Or only not while the event is live? Can it be fixed now that the event is over? Preferably before the troop is added to Primal Rift portals 3 weeks Friday.

It’ll be much harder to get copies of it from portals if it remains epic, as there are 2 other epics in the faction and only 1 other Ultra Rare.

No, it cannot be changed generally.
Changing the troop rarity affects a heap of other things, as well as then needing to get the data for anyone who spent any resources on the troop, reverting the spent resources as well as reverting the upgrades to the troop itself to the lower rarity and everything that comes with that.

With the above being said, we are looking at temporarily adjusting the pool for the Primal Rift Chaos Portal so Assassin Vine is the only Epic troop available.

This would go live from weekly reset Feb 16th and then be adjusted back March 6th.

Once I have confirmed this is possible and happening, I will post again Seems to be confirmed, just waiting for it to be implemented and tested

Or we could just have. Epic faction troops. Every now and then.

And it would take less dev time to change.

Cos does it matter.

It is more work to have it rotating back and forth. Than just set it to be one rarity. This instance it was just set up incorrectly.

Does this mean that the Assassin Vine will be available this early, ahead of the normal “cooling off” period that it takes for new troops to rotate into their associated chests?

Normally it takes 3-4 weeks from the Faction Expansion before the newest troop becomes available by that method. Which means I ordinarily wouldn’t expect it to be there until after March 6th.

We will be releasing it early.

Then after March 6th, when it would have released, the other Epic troops will be returned to the Chaos Portal for that Faction.

Well, I really appreciate the effort. However, this feels like it will open a possibly even bigger can of worms. How will players know that this special rule is in effect? There’s really several aspects to this:

1.) A lot of players would want to take up the special offer. They won’t just attempt to pull Assassin Vine now, because the officially communicated and well-established procedure is that Assassin Vine will only enter the pool in 4 weeks. At which point the special offer will no longer apply.

2.) Some players will attempt to pull the other epic troops within the next weeks, e.g. to assemble a pure faction team. They won’t know that their success chance is zero and will possibly waste a huge amount of chaos shards on a wild goose chase.

3.) Everybody trying to catch up after the special offer expires (e.g. newer players) will be at a disadvantage, they have to pay more to achieve the same.

Just to point this out once more, only a tiny percentage of players ever visits the official sites, like the forum. You would have to announce the temporarily changed behavior prominently within the game, at least on the event page as well as the screen where you pull troops for Primal Rift. This isn’t just a Good Idea, this falls in the area of cheating with the displayed gacha loot odds, for whatever good intentions.

Personal opinion, if you can’t retrofit Assassin Vine to ultra-rare, keep it epic and don’t even think about touching anything else. Throw in some compensation in a way that doesn’t meddle with the game rules, especially not in regards to loot tables. One option would be to send everybody 16 copies of Assassin Vine, the amount needed to make it mythic. Slightly less would probably also work, but hey, it’s a mistake that really shouldn’t have happened with the slightest bit of QA in place. It’s not going to break the bank and sends a positive message, that your side instead of the players will pay the bill.

Just grabbing what points I can answer;

  • The drop rates displayed are the chance for the specific rarity to drop, and not each troop within that rarity, etc. So, this change does not make that information incorrect.
  • We have and will be again, sharing this across all socials
  • The team is working on adding in-game news and possibly sending out mail to everyone

Some other changes would only be possible with client changes, which is not possible before the weekend.

This is the only thing that matters, since (as you are aware) many players won’t see it on socials. Thank you for this, though, as it will make a huge difference. I really hope you can ensure all players are aware of this change.

Don’t go down that road. This is treading awfully close to a statement the previous community manager made several years back when a prominently advertised mythic was impossible to pull. Claiming that everything is okay because the mythic was still in the drop pool, just at 0% chance, apparently didn’t go down well.

I think we can agree that the communicated and expected behavior is to be able to pull all faction troops from their portal, especially since there’s only half a dozen of them. There is no way for players to verify this, it’s something we have been asking for for years, status quo is still “trust us”. If you now take the official stance that you may at any point remove any troops from any chests without any reliable way for us to know about it, that the only thing that counts is a rarity chance that doesn’t say anything at all about the loot pool, then I don’t think that trust will hold.

Look, I’m sure you are putting a lot of effort into coming up with a good solution here. But this one isn’t it, because it heavily damages the credibility of your gasha system. Even going forward with “yeah, the troop is epic, tough luck” would cause less harm.

You seem to be having fun. Should ask em about South Korean Loot Box laws while you’re at it.

I’m not intending for it to come off that way, so my apologies. Was just more bringing up what I could after going over everything I could think of with the Prod team as I did specifically mention the drop tables.

No worries, no need for apologies, I probably came across as way too harsh. I’m just trying to make you aware that modifying loot tables in a way not readily apparent is a very touchy topic that has caused quite a lot of burnt ground in the past.

You may remember this one about loot tables from roughly a year ago:

You never posted an update about this, which is quite unusual. I suspect there’s still someone prominent at IP2 who also considers loot tables a very touchy topic, especially when it gets to making them readily apparent. I’m somewhat surprised adjusting the Primal Rift loot table didn’t get vetoed, maybe it’s still holiday season. :slightly_smiling_face:

At least I didn’t pull another copy of Redthorn or Dark Forest Troll.
