Question Regarding Guild Tasks

I’m confused on how Guild Tasks work.

I’ve donated some gold a few times, and still gain rewards even when I don’t donate gold.
The question I’m unsure about is: are guild tasks actual TASKS?

As in, is the Guild programmed to secretly keep track of the number of red gems we collect, and that’s how the bar gets filled up?

Or as Guild Tasks basically Guild Dues (you pay Gold to fill up the bar, and that’s the only way the bar gets filled up)

The reason for that is other members in your guild completed the tasks then everyone in your guild gets the rewards.
