Piper's Merry Jig Spell Works Backwards

When I use the Merry Jig spell, it does the second half (steal armor) before the first half (true damage).

Here’s an old bug report on it for Android.

I’m on PC.

Not a bug, many spells alike deal secondary effrect before the damage

What I mean is that the text is backwards - it’s written in the wrong order. Besides, the old bug on Android that I linked was reported, so why shouldn’t it be reported for PC?

it’s not your fault devs do not count this as a bug, there were plenty troops over 6 years since the first report who has spell written backwards as well, yet no fixes were done. So we can safely assume bad writing is not a bug :C

Yes, there are several examples of Troops whose spell effects do not strictly occur in the same order as phrased on the spelltext – and usually to the caster’s advantage.

Compare and contrast:

  • Amira steals Magic then deals damage (double for Blue targets).
  • Mind Eater deals damage then steals Magic.

Mind Eater’s spelltext is crystal clear that it only steals Magic after damaging the target, and only when the target survives. Amira’s spelltext lists the damage first and then the Magic steal, but the Magic steal is executed first which slightly boosts the damage, regardless of whether the target survives or not.

Personally, I suspect there is a design rule that if a spell involves a user interaction then the spelltext must list that interaction first regardless of how the rest operates – e.g: “Choose: [spell A] or [spell B]”, “Destroy a row/column”, “Give ____ to an ally”, etc.
