Newbies save your day 2 day diamonds for your armor

If you cant afford or are unwilling to buy gems. Save your diamonds as you get them.
1 or 2 diamonds may not seem like much , but they add up quick. In a week or month you will have enough to buy your favorite armor.
I like dragon armor it really helps with the gold situation.

All depends on which guild you are in. Thus better thus more gems you will get.
