Why cant i Ascend or level my vine martin? What am i missing?

I have 5 cards on hand for ascention
It wont let me ascend saying i need to level more.
It wont let me level more before i ascend…

You need to have 1 more copy than what it says. If it says you need 15 for ascension you will actually need 16 copies since the 15 that is used for ascending is taken away.

Too bad now OP has to wait 4 weeks before they can get more copies of vine marten
