So considering Guild Wars defenses are a lot more dangerous than an “infinite looping journey troop”… and we now have astral spire bonuses that negate the opponent “free turns” in PVP…
Can we have the old journey troops back? Just something to make that event a little less unbearable?
EDIT: Also… making those troops relevant again may make some guilds reconsider ALWAYS PICKING THE SAME GREEN MAP for guild wars because it’s clearly overpowered, compared to the rest. Blue restriction had some doing blue map because of the old school book defense, but other than that… it’s just all green.
Sure. Ban it from being used in PvP defenses, or in PvP entirely. Or consider rebalancing the weapon. Do something besides the sloppy bandaid fix that’s being used now. It’s not described anywhere in-game and again, it was originally stated to be being temporary. It’s been almost 2 years.
You mean throw money at the game, to Pay To Win? Cus unless you buy your way there, the pathfinder is NEVER shiny during the event.
I mean, you can hoard shiny keys for one specific journey, but then all the others will have non-shiny pathfinders.
Even fully shiny and with Astral Spire boost, I’m not sure it’s back to where it was.
Normal version of the spell is create 2 gems, plus 2 per ally with x type.
Shiny version is create 3 gems, plus 2 per ally with x type.
With Astral, that becomes 3 gems, plus 2 per ally with x type, plus 1 (Bountiful Gems node).
The old spells for Pathfinder troops were create 3 gems, plus 3 per ally with x type.
So, maxed out, the current version can create 12. The old version could create 15.
Here’s a screenshot from a youtube video I found, talking about “the new pathfinder”, and saying to use it, released when Seekra Darkwood was added, before the nerfs.
It’s also worth noting, they nerfed the gem creation, but never gave us anything back in return, like increased damage. So, pathfinder became a total liability to use, because they deal low damage and have a low chance to loop, but a high chance to end your turn and give the enemy a board where they can loop. I only ever use them to kill the last enemy, or if things go wrong, now. They should have reworked them all, or changed their design to something new. The first couple of pathfinders (Hawthorn, Deathclaw) weren’t loopers like the others, so they could have found something new to do with them. (And we even had Sir Ailun at one point, who was also a summoner) But instead, they turned them into a weight we have to carry through the event, like several other events.
I get it if they don’t want to put them back up where they used to be, but they should do something with them, to make them actually useful during the event.
One of the first Journey troops, Deathclaw, had a solid, original idea–steal life and explode gems. All they had to do was increase the number of gem explosions based on xx allies. It would give Journey troops survivability, decent damage, and good mana generation instead of “hit or miss” gem creation.
Sometimes, people think too hard for an answer when it was right in front of them along. Or maybe they just don’t care.
Not that extreme. Usually a full month of shiny keys from events should be enough to get a journey pathfinder to shiny level 2. And a Journey event happens every once per month.
With shiny level 2 and extra gem from brown astral spire, pathfinder now creates 14 gems, just 1 short of original 15. Of course, it’s mana cost is 14, compared to original 12.
The very first Journey troop, Hawthorne, was “destroy a row and deal XX damage”. Which had looping potential on the right board for intelligent players. That was fine, too.
Of course, that very first Journey also had restrictions that allowed players to use double-Gobtruffle teams, so the thing could have had Ogre’s spell and many people wouldn’t have cared.
That’s a vague amount. How many do you think you get from a month of events? Cus I assume it’s gonna depend on what guild you’re in and how far you push in events.
And you would still need to focus purely on journey events, and not use the keys on any other week, like I was saying. Doabable, but it means hoarding until those events, which not everyone does.
I shall clarify. I mean 7 shiny keys per week. In other word, full reward from guild events. It indeed depends on an active guild seeking to complete all events.
Journey pathfinders are the only weekly shinty troops that shiny levels have some meaningful differences. Some shiny legendaries (from guild wars) and mythic (from campaign) also worth shooting for shiny level 2, but they don’t have “feature week”. You can just open shiny chest in journey week and hope for best.
