[investigating] Cogbolt not attacking 3 times

Platform, device version and operating system:

Mobile / Samsung Z5 / Android

Screenshot or image:

n/a, but might be able to get one tomorrow. Similar to this: [Reported] Immortal terra not attacking 3 times

This also happened YEARS AGO with Infernus and Tina.

What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened:
Cogbolt’s skill is to attack an enemy + 2 more random ones. Occassionally, it only attacks twice total. I’m using it for the first time in Journey this week and he’s only attacking twice.

How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
Every 2 or 3 casts. Though after I recognized it, I started recording and used the rest of my sigils and it didn’t happen again. I’ve confirmed with others in my guild however, that it’s happening to them as well.

Steps to make it happen again
Cast cogbolt’s skill.

This bug is ubiquitous. Almost every troop released that hits multiple random targets has this problem. For some reason, instead of picking a random target as each shot is fired, it seems to determine each target in advance. Then, if a later shot is meant for a target killed by an earlier shot, the later shot just gets dropped instead of selecting a new target.

Ratchet Cogbolt has been out quite a while now, it’s disappointing he still hasn’t been fixed, especially since he’s one of the stronger troops available in this week’s Journey, or at least he would be if he worked properly.

It might be more complicated. I saw two shots killing both remaining enemies, then a third shot killed the troop that spawned on the death of the last troop. If it picks the targets in advance it shouldn’t have killed the one that spawned on death.

Other times I’ve seen two shots instead of three. With no clue why it sometimes work and sometimes doesn’t.

As shown on screenshot Ratchet is supposed to do damage to an enemy and two random enemies, however…
in about half of the times he’s doing only damage to one random enemy.

If anyone can capture a video, that would be awesome. We haven’t been able to repro this so far

It might be that it picks the first random target before resolving the damage from the chosen target. The reason I say this is because I have been killing the last two troops in journey with Ratchet. Before I would target the lower health (oneshot) troop first. Then I got the bug multiple times. Since switching to target the higher health troop (require two shots) the bug has not occurred for me.

First time I’m trying to record a video for something like this. The bug happens in the second battle in this video.

It’s possibly somewhat weirder. The first few Journey levels I had the same issue, Cogbolt consistently only hit one random troop instead of two. However, this changed to two random troops after some battles, even though Cogbolt was still one-shotting all troops. No idea what caused this change in behavior.

I think it’s simply whether he randomly targets the same troop twice or not. If he does, the second hit gets dropped, since the troop isn’t there any more for the 2nd hit. It could also happen if he randomly targets the same troop selected by the player.

What might have happened was he had predetermined to use his last shot on slot one. Slot one died in the first two hits, but because it was refilled by the summon, the last shot was able to hit it.

Also, something weird in the battle right after. I killed with cogbolt ans got an extra turn message. Perhaps these issues have something to do with each other. Idk why id get an extra turn

Unless this was a delay from the brown 4-match made right before.

Here you are!

Is anyone having this happen when they are not playing on 4x speed?

I never play on x4 because it gives me a headache.
I play at x2 and there it is happening too.

I’ll check tomorrow when I have more sigils. Is X3 speed ok?

If it’s already been reported on a lower speed, then that’s all I needed to know
