So, I was thinking that the past few hero gems have not gone over well with many players, and the next few seem better but basically just give a random troop a specific status effect, and was wandering if there’s anything other than just “give X status effect” that we’d like to see as an effect for hero gems.
I know a lot of players would rather we just not have hero gems, and I’d be fine with them not dropping in almost every game mode for 10 weeks, but hero gems being something that troops can create, or something storms can generate (like elemental stars and umbral stars, for example) seems fine, so I’d rather we give better ideas, and hope that get implemented, instead of waiting for bad idea to fall upon us, like the summoning gems (I know they were occasionally useful, but were generally bad).
So, what ideas would you actually like, for a hero gem? Either a general concept or a specific example. Thanks.
I was thinking some kind of wildcard type gem, that when it matches with gems of a specific colour, it gives 1, 2 or 3 (depending on it’s level) extra mana to all your allies of that colour.
Maybe call it a mana burst, or mana splatter or something.
So, like if your whole team was green, and you matched a x2 version, your first troop gets the normal 3 mana, then every troop gets an extra 2, meaning the first has 5 and the rest have 2.
So, it’d be really good for troops that are manablocked, which isn’t gonna affect many teams, but when we keep getting railroaded into using specific weapons and troops that we can’t choose (like events), it happens more than we might like. And as long as the amount it generates isn’t huge, it wouldn’t massively mess with game balance, but just help out a team.
Personally I’d like to see an effect that changes a Troop’s Mana Color temporarily – which could also be provided as a Gem type on the board. You could, for example, use it to intentionally Mana-block an enemy Troop (especially one that can’t be Silenced directly), or to work around some bad board luck/layouts where you don’t have a preferred color available.
A gem that increases magic would be nice. It could look like a magical artefact. Matchable or non- matchable would be fine. Giving magic to a random or the whole team would be fine.
A Cleave gem might be interesting. Works like a skull gem. For each Cleave gem part of a skull match, damage is dealt to an additional opponent. Can’t hit an opponent more than once.
Heart-shaped, matches with Red Gems, and inflicts Charm on the weakest enemy.
(Why “weakest”? It makes the behavior more predictable, I think it works well from a “lore” perspective, and the weakest troop changes as damage is dealt)
Seeing the mention of “Decaying Gems” in the achievements, I was anticipating something like a gem with a countdown on it. If it isn’t matched or destroyed within X turns it decays into a stone block. Things like this are already fairly common in many match-3 games.
“Decaying Gems” turned out to be something very different.
How about a Mongo Gem? When matched, it does something random. Maybe explode a row or a column, maybe summon a troop, maybe just sit there and glare, maybe send you to a random Game Guide. Who knows what RNG shenanigans it might conjure?
Honestly, we should have gotten charm gems for the campaign during valentines day, and decay gems for a campaign during halloween, but too late now, I guess.
Don’t think they meant for the holiday event on its own but for the whole campaign that would have been happening at the time of valentine’s or Halloween.
