Hello, been a few years, wanna see my team?

(I did post this on Reddit too but wanna post it here)

My Main Team

Hey Guys, full disclosure here, I’m not much a PvPer, but I do enjoy this game a bit. (It’s great background noise and I can listen to podcasts when I don’t wanna think about what I’m playing)

Anywho. This is my main team and build. (Btw I am level 347 and a ‘low spender’ aka I bought the Phoenix armor and a few 1-3 dollar pack deals once)

My Hero is a Sorcerer build, fully maxed out with the traits and level. (Magic Link, Inscribed, and Dark Channel). Talent tree is: Gloom, Dark Hunger, Plaugebearer, Tactician, Stealthy, and Tree of Knowledge.

My hero is a Hero/Daemon

-

Medals in Use - Medal of Anu, Medal of Season, Badge of Orpheus. (Subject to change as I’m grinding for more medals. Got any suggestions?)

My team build is

- Dark Monolith, Daemon/Construct, Mythic LV 20, Bronze, All Traits (Daemon Bond, StoneSkin, and Absorb Power)

I deal double damage to foes if my life is damaged at all, but stone skin allows me to reduce Skull by 50%, I absorb magic each time a spell is cast, as a Daemon Captain all allies gain 2 attack, and all Daemons gain 2 life.

This mess I can go from doing 13 damage to 43 in a few turns to two enemies.

Attack 27, Defense 24, Life 27

Brown and Red Gems

- Hero, Sorcerer, Daemon/hero all traits (Magic Link, Inscribe, and Dark Channel) LV 87 Champion - +9 Morthani’s Scythe (Dusky, Dying, Leeching, Ensouled)

I deal a base of 21 damage to all enemies, if they die I create 7 skulls. I steal 2 mana from the first enemy when attacking, disease random enemy when matching 4-5 gems, Steal 1 life when matching purple gems, gain 1 armor when enemies casts a spell, gain 3 magic at the start of a battle, can’t be targeted by spells, become enchanted when matching green gems, all purple allies gain 2 life, destroy random purple gems and creat a skull when I attack, and I gain four souls after each attack.

*Basically* I can go from doing 28 - 40 damage in a few turns. Disease helps also. Enchanting means, even if not purple I steal in a few turns can cast. The skulls help as Monolith can tank most hits, even if he can’t I have a high chance, if I kill 2 or more, of gaining critical hits and extra turns.

Attack 27, Defense 35, Life 44

Purple Gems

- Skadi, Divine/Fey, Mythic LV20, Bronze, all Traits (Insulated, Arcane, Snowstorm)

I freeze and mana burn the first 2 enemies and knock them down to the bottom. I also can summon a Queen Mab. (Which I also have all her traits - Insulated, Arcane, and Winter Veil. LV 20 and Mythic) I gain 1 magic each time a spell is casted.

As I mana burn my enemies, provided they don’t have buffs against it, I deal more damage over time. I also knock them down. With my hero enchanted and up top speed, the magic link means I can get her up to speed faster. And, should anyone (mostly Monolith) get take out, I can just keep summoning Queen Mab’s. (The Snowstorm is a bit annoying)

Attack 26, Defense 25, Life 38.

Purple, Blue, and Yellow gems

- Yao Guai, Elf/Daemon, Mythic LV20, Bronze, All Traits (Infernal Armor, Mana Shield, Corruption)

Base attack is 15 to the first two enemies, boosted by life, I steal 4 Magic from both enemies, transforming all purple to red.

I put him at the bottom as he’s my hardest hitter. And because some enemies drag the bottom to the top, the infernal armor means that even if they hit him it hurts back by 25%. My man can’t burn me, I can’t be drained, and it can’t be stolen back. And each time I match red, even if doing to Monolith up top, I keep getting life. And even when I get rid of purple gems, matching green still enchants my hero, and gives the green to Yao.

Attack 28, Defense 26, Life 33

Green and Red Gems.

….

Admittedly this team has its weaknesses. They are hard hitters, but my hardest hitters aren’t great in defense. Should Monolith get taken out, and I can’t summon a Mab fast enough, I’m hurting.

Luckily I can often get my team up to speed quickly, and keep mana draining the enemies to make them weaker.

I also can use everything on the board, and even when I don’t have purple, matching green s gives me an advantage. I also make it harder for the opposing team to get mana quickly. And when they do, provided they don’t have protection against spells or mana burn, it hurts them alot.

My focuses were weakening the opponent down, making them regret getting mana at all, make skulls feel pointless, and be faster at casting with quickly gain more damage with each turn.

However I sacrificed defense for this, and true damage is a pain.

My mom pointed out her Mang can really hurt me, and yeah, taking armor to make attack is. However I pointed out her team has weak defenses too, meaning I can cast faster and take out her team if she’s not quicker than me. She needs to find which one to take out first, Yao is the worst of my team the AI targets him first or my Skadi.

But, that’s my team. Any thoughts? Keep in mind again I don’t do PvP most of the time. But I tried my best. I also have other teams centered around themes too based upon traits and I’ve been working on other classes.

There’s a lot of options to choose from in Gems of War and a lot of it depends on what troops you have available.

So a few things I can point out without telling you what to do:

Dark Monolith
Morthani’s Scythe -Sorcerer
Skadi
Yao Guai

So you have 4 sources of damage and that’s fun of course, but it can be more efficient to use less sources of damage if you can use them faster and more often. Example 3 sources of damage and a troop that can generate mana for itself or the team like an explode gems type troop. Worth looking into.

and..

Conflict of interest: Skadi’s 3rd trait makes a Blue storm every turn, which can be very useful for teams interested in blue mana. Yao Guai is a Red/Green troop that turns Purple into Red. The extra Blue gems are making it harder for Yao Guai to do its job properly. You also have Dark Monolith in the first slot, so the Red goes to that first unless you never cast Dark Monolith.

You may want to look into a troop that uses the extra blue mana more efficiently instead of Yao Guai, or maybe substituting Skadi out so Yao Guai can be more aggressive.

There’s also many other Hero Classes in the game so at some point you could look into other classes that may work better for what you’re trying to do and start leveling them up as well.

Good luck and have fun.
