You can, it’s pretty pointless though. The game has a hidden difficulty setting for battles, if you challenge yourself, the fight takes place at lowest difficulty. Contrary to that, Guild Wars always ran at highest difficulty, which made teams behave vastly different.
Is this confirmed, or speculation? I’d not heard about this before. I recall posts directly stating that no RNG manipulation was done in battles.
It’s not RNG manipulation, just the computer more likely intentionally making inefficient moves, like ignoring extra turn matches. If you dig around deep enough, if was explained at least once in the forum, possibly by Sirrian.

I don’t really think that is true) At an old times devs mentioned that GW battle-bot and a PVP battle-bot was different. but now with a old GW completely lost i’m sure it uses the same engine.
As for attacking yourself - the main problem is that if you attack yourself - you will set the team setup, which you’re attacking, to your next defence, so if you wanna make 5 battles against one setup with another setup you should change your def just after every battle
