Can you explain how is working the matchmaking for guild war ?
Freezes When I PVP rank 34 faught in order :
Dragon Army (rank 1) + 0 point
Piraten der Nacht (rank 14) - 3 points
The Unforgiven (rank 2) - 1 point
Pkaaaaaapk (rank 32) on going
What happened ? We are optional Guild War (that doesn’t count, it’s a management decision not a game decision), but make a matchmaking with +30 positions of difference is totally stupid (isn’t an insult but a measurement).
Dragon Army (rank 1) won with a difference of 34,509 points
The Unforgiven (rank 2) won with a difference of 31,636 points
Why Dragon Army claim 0 points and The Unforgiven +1
Is the second at more of an advantage than the first ?
So it isn’t fair for all, not just the bad guild in guild war.
There is no point in having a ranking system if matchmaking picks guilds at random without taking their rank into account.
If the way is to show how we can be destroy on so many way, obviously don’t take any attention of my post.
So I’m looking for 4 answers:
Can you explain how work the matchmaking?
What happened? (Only if the matchmaking isn’t normal)
Is the second at more of an advantage than the first (to fight the same rank guild)?
Do you see enjoyment in any way?
Platform Xbox (but I guess every platform is concerned)
From what I understand the matchmaking creates brackets and then pick your opponents from within your bracket. This can be fine but the brackets near the top are too large. The difference between rank 400 and rank 430 isn’t that much. The difference between rank 1 and rank 30 is huge.
They specified how the rating changes in a post when they announced this new GW. The tldr is how much rating is gained or lost is decided by your relative ratings. Combined with too large brackets at the top this can create silly scenarios like you’re seeing, where the rating doesn’t even change if the higher ranked guild win. (imo it should be a minimum of 1)
We are like rank 30 and went against 15. We had 7 people not even set a D or understand what a set bonus was. 2 won at paragon. I would think 1-5 fight, 6-10, 11-15, etc. It is not even fun do get out classed with no chance. Please fix and make it like the original GW. The top guild should battle each other each GW.
Minimum possible bracket size of current 4-day GW is 6. And match-up arrangement for such small size will be very rigid, probably needs additional codes to deal with.
But indeed, if guild war schedule is not planned to change in recent future, I’d suggest top 2 brackets reduce to size of 6: 1~6, 7~12. Then next 4 brackets to size of 12: 13~24, 25~36, 37~48, 49~60. Then return to current “large” bracket size.
I’m not created this post to speak about ideas of what should be GW.
We did feedback longtime ago with really actions (or very slow actions). I’m looking for official answer to understand what my guild need to do if we don’t want to be exterminated by top guilds and understand why is a difference of points between 2 guilds are fighting for the same place have a difference of points.
Obviously, I have some idea of answer (like the position in leaderboard is only cosmetic).
It’s based off elo type system, #1 guild has a higher probability of winning than rank #2 so they get less points if you played rank 3 they would get more points from you than rank 2
Match making is terrible not fun for either side when it’s Rank 1 vs rank 30
On ps5 only like 3 good GW guilds left with everyone quitting the game, where there was like 12 during old GW’S system even though number 1 was always dominated by the same guild
For an unofficial answer, both fights were rated as impossible odds by the scoring mechanism. The one against the #1 guild just happened to clock in as slightly more impossible than against the #2 guild, so the #1 guild received 0 points for the free win, the #2 guild 1 point. It’s just based on how far the ELO scores are away from each other, it doesn’t matter how the guilds performed in detail (e.g. whether they won by 10k points or 100k points).
Unfortunately, while the ELO mechanism is well aware these are impossible fights, the game still insists on throwing them at you. The matching algorithm entirely ignores ELO and reuses some broken coding from the previous iteration of Guild Wars, which has often been reported and so far always been ignored. The only way out is to game the system, throw your matches for half a year to drop below #100. That won’t really take the pain away, it just ensures that you’ll be on the giving side instead of the receiving side.
Being in Dragon Army, I’m kind of irritated that we win a battle and get 0 points for it. The minimum should be 1 point for a victory. Also, the score differential was due in large part by our opponent deciding early on they had no chance of winning and stayed at the gate.
ELO is a competitive scoring mechanism. It can’t give you 1 point for a guaranteed win, otherwise anybody could become chess grandmaster just by repeatedly playing against the neighbor’s toddler.
You are talking about the daily total score. That’s something entirely different and not really relevant here. The ELO score is your overall placement related score over the past years. It changes based on whether you won or lost the day, it doesn’t matter by how far you won/lost. Beating much lower rated guilds doesn’t raise your score, which is intentional. Getting matched against much lower rated guild is a game breaking bug, good luck ever getting that addressed though.
