What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened:
Since 4.8 rolled out, the Underworld Renown achievements are bugged. I completed a level 20 farm delve in Halls of the Guardians and received the achievement for gaining 10,000 and 20,000 underworld renown. I only have 6k renown.
How often does this happen? When did it begin happening?
I don’t think I can get achievements multiple times.
Steps to make it happen again
Have less than the achievement renown needed. Complete a delve, defeat the boss, open the chest. Undeserved achievements should be granted.
