This week has pointed out that requiring 1 troop type is not ideal even in a 10 week span. I personally gave up during week 3 after grinding the only explore mode where Orcs could be found. The upside of rewards for me personally was not worth the down side of doing something that doesn’t help me gain book deeds. This is a long way of saying these campaign tasks need at least 2 troop types due availability of certain troop types being highly restricted.
I hate to be that guy, but….
…. isn’t this the sort of task that one should gradually chip away at over ten weeks? Instead of leaving it for the very last minute, like that kid in school who waited until the night before it was due to get started on his 15-page term paper?
It is a sucky task. But it’s also something that could have been done rather gradually over the course of the entire campaign. Me? I made a point of doing a quick Explore-1 rush through Grosh’Nak every day with a team that could knock out the five battles in ~2 minutes. I’d make gradual progress – roughly a dozen kills per day – even if I wasn’t doing other stuff that included the necessary troop type. And it got done before we hit the final hours.
It’s not like some of the old tasks which would ask for all of these particular kills and give you a much smaller time window in which to do so. There was ample time to do this; it just required one to put in the effort on a consistent basis.
While you’re right, of course, this type of task is one trying to capitalize on my time.
GOW is simply not the only game that I play. Additionally, it happens to be the one I give the least attention to now, because it’s literally just about getting Deed books. A bottle neck that has existed for MANY years now.
Couple that with the way they’ve changed Explore to be insufferable, you’ll excuse me if I cannot sit and play the mode for more than 10 minutes without getting annoyed.
That said, I really don’t care what the devs do in this situation. I think the better fix would be to fix the Explore/Underspire bug that has existed since they introduced Underspire - but that would simply be too logical.
If these tasks are designed to be done over the course of 10 weeks and only 8 or 9 of those weeks progress can be made towards the task then something should change. Does not need to change. Does not have to change. Just should.
My overall feature request is to make the game more fun for all involved. A majority of folks tend to procrastinate. I doubt the intended design of campaign tasks was to teach adults to be more responsible. I have to assume troop types being locked out of explore certain weeks was not thought about when implemented.
