Emperor's New OP Groove

To determine if a troop is op, lets put it to the test. The test is simple, is it worth its rarity or is it too powerful for its rarity.

Thanks for all the response.
Just to clarify.
If you read the OP, I LIKE the card I just felt that it was too cheap.
Thats all.

And to soapbox for a minute, apology in advance, it is frustrating to me when people make comments like
“Let’s make every card the same.” Or
“Losing shouldn’t be the basis…”

I am a deck builder, I love the strategy. I started this thread because I discovered a card that based on other cards with similar abilities could do mutilpe GOOD things for less. This is a red flag for a card that will alter the power structure of a game. As mentioned above. If 3 things only costs 14 then why is bat charging me 15 for only 2. It’s not a perfect example because 2 target vs 4, but you catch my drift.

Also to say that losing is not the measure… Then what is? I judge how well a card is by how effectively I win. Ipso facto, it’s ineffectivity is based upon loss. It’s not whining it’s a simple fact of reality.

Ok, stepping down off soapbox now. Sorry!

There are commons that charge you 9 to do 3 things. They are quickly dismissed. I do not think emperor is op for his cost, however i think he is not worth the rarity of legendary from a spell perspective. Maybe an epic and definitely not mythic level.

The funny thing is, I love the strategy too. That’s why I’m AGAINST changing cards after their released. I really don’t care what is OP and what isn’t.

There’s winning, and then there’s how quick you can win. If you make a deck that’s meant to cycle mana forever (something like hellcat/banshee/valkyrie/alchemist), you can win 98% of your games, but they’ll take 6+ minutes a piece. So speed has to join into it. Bat is stronger then Khorvash because he regains health, does full aoe true damage, and with 1 cast he’s most likely going to do double skull damage (heck, he could start the match with double skull damage with cursed). This makes Crimson bat really strong with Valkyrie (obviously). Khorvash is nice, but stun isn’t that amazing, and stoneskin is great but generally you’ll still die to a skull generator deck on the first cast, especially if they have bone dragon or sheggra.

Personally I like the combination of Khorvash and Bat, but Bat is what makes it powerful, not Khorvash. With 1 cast of bat, a first slot Khorvash can 2 cast and kill the first 2 creatures. That’s great, but it’s still somewhat slow. I still can win battles faster with Sooth/valk/bat/bat or Soot/mab/valk/mab. So in terms of speed, Khorvash actually isn’t super fast. Both decks have identical win rates, but one of the decks is faster.

So as of right now, I would say Khorvash definitely does not need a nerf. The targetted drain on Manticore is still better then the double drain of Khorvash in most situations, and it costs less mana. I like Khorvash because I can create a mana control deck with him (Manti/Khorvash/Valk/Psion) but to be honest if they nerfed him I would just stop using him all together due to other decks out there just being plain out better.

I love the new play style of “pull a troop to the front, and other troops all target the top troop.”

Really brings a lot of older troops back into relevance. Leonis troops are just the tip of the iceberg!

Seems like foreshadowing.

You make several good points.
My main team is sooth/bat/Valk/bat.
It was the team that got destroyed by
Emperor/siren/Valk/bat

Now to be fair, siren gave a crazy lucky drop that filled emperor and bat who did two turn kill my sooth and bat. However, in the end I still almost won, came down to who got next spell or skull match. But regardless my OP was only about the casting cost. It just seemed to fast to me.

That’s all…

That actually reminds me… I would have won if something funny didn’t happen with the AI’s bat.

AI bat had no armor but 58 health, ie NOT wounded, the number was green. But it attacked and dealt double dmg as though wounded.

Does dmg to armor count as wounded? Or was this a bug on bats 3rd trait misfiring?

Bat does double skull damage AGAINST wounded enemies, not if the Bat itself is wounded.

Doh!

I only use bat… All he time… Forgot in my beat down.
