This happened to me once yesterday but even though it kicks you back to main screen, you still get whatever rewards you were meant to. I was 6 stones away from the last tier in the event and after I got booted, thinking I just lost everything, the event still triggered as complete, and the stones were there. So I think you’re not actually losing stuff, it’s just not reporting to you what you did win.
