I opened about 8,000 gem chests, 80,000 guild seals, and 200,000 glory in the last two months and only got one mythic item. Does that seem right? This feels awful.
Yes. The data is on our servers, not on your account or device.
Alright, I hope that in the coming days, the chests will be kinder to me. I always end up using far more keys than others to obtain a single mythic item. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with my account.
I really love this game and always spend most of my free time on it, but the chests never seem to meet my expectations, which is wearing down my patience. And it’s not just me—many newcomers feel the same way.
Some quick math (assuming that all the numbers you listed above are correct)– your luck would be pretty terrible but still theoretically possible– roughly about 1 in ~34,000. There have been other odds for other parts of the game that could have reached Powerball-territory (like the odd stacking of dungeons to earn the dragonite then draw the unique dragons in the shortest possible time) so 34k isn’t that farfetched.
Since you mention newer players, if I were to start over from scratch I would target specific mythics via the Soulforge rather than spamming chests as not all mythics are of similar quality.
From there, I would always try to keep a buffer of roughly 2x the need for each chest type (so 2k gem chests, 400k glory, ~38k seals) before I started chasing the mythic of the month. Eventually it becomes a game of momentum where you’ll have more keys than good things to spend it on but it was a very slow process years ago that has been compounded over and over by the ever expanding troop pool.
So the tl;dr– despite the bad luck, with the number of mythics out there, the rank and file troops you picked up burning all those keys are more than likely going to be more impactful on your success than that elusive copy of Fallen Valdis.
I’ve always felt the same. I see in guild chat people pulling up 2 and 3 mythics in a row, and I feel lucky to get one. I still have one Kingdom stuck at Power Level 9 because I’ve never been able to get one of the 4 mythics for it. Been playing daily for a few years now and I’m still missing about 100 mythics total, even though I’m in a great guild that maximizes keys each week.
I opened 800k seals last week and got about 59 mythics. That sounds about right?
Guild tasks don’t really give that many keys. You need to play vault weekend pretty heavily. Vault keys give gem and event keys as well as clan orbs.
Average is ~19,000 seals/mythic so you’re well better than average but still a small enough sample size to where you just take the win for what it is.
To answer the other questions, @Prisane – if you’re looking for a mythic from a specific kingdom, first make sure that they do drop from chests as now many mythics do not (Campaign, PvP, etc). Second, I would then generally wait for the kingdom to come up in rotation and use Event Keys that I’d be typically saving otherwise. Note– there’s no duplicate protections so fishing for a specific mythic in a specific kingdom via Event keys won’t always be a good time. I tried to keep 2000 keys on hand ready for such a time (but I’m fairly conservative in terms of having extra > 1K. No right or wrong answer per se.)
And re: guilds– a highly functioning guild (completing events, etc in addition to just the tasks) will still provide a solid baseline for materials and GaPs will absolutely help to supplement. I was able to stay ahead of the curve if you will before GaPs were introduced but without question it provides more cushion and can get newer players up to speed faster than ever before.
Not only that. In the previous few rounds of searching for Takshaka, I spent 4000 event keys and got zero mythic items… Yet my buddies averaged one mythic item per 600-700 keys. Damn it, why do these unlucky things always happen to this account?
The only specific mythics I’ve searched for have been Takshaka and TINA. They both seem to be essential. I ended up crafting one Tak last time it showed up (only had diamonds for one) and I still don’t have TINA. I do save up event keys and only use them when I don’t have the 2 per kingdom needed to progress past power 21 or for Tak/TINA. I generally have about 1000 of them before spending any, though of course it depends on kingdom rotation.
In all the time I’ve been in my current guild I only recall one event we did not complete. And we always complete the basic and epic tasks. Every vault weekend I end up with 50-60 keys.
I keep a base of 30k guild keys, and 30k glory, and save all gem keys the week before a new mythic.
Edit: spelling
Did anyone even ask this person if they were on chest lvl 6 for seals? I dont feel like reading all that rn but that be my first question not last
