Remove all guilds that are 60+ days without activity
encourage players in guilds with low numbers to merge with others
finally make the cost of creating a guild MUCH higher or at least lock it behind a high level
just thought you could maybe do it with accounts that have 2 years of inactivity too.
Has it occurred to you that some players might just want to be in a small guild with a friend or two? That not everyone wants to be in a big guild. Why should they merge?
Some people take a break from the game for a few months, why should they come back to find their guild gone?
in a nut shell too many dead guilds, too few players to fill them. so many players in half full guilds not wanting to move due not giving up control or guild loyalty.
i dont know what position in your guild you are but as a recruiter it has become increasingly more difficult to find people to join a guild
I agree but with 6 months of inactivity some people may lose their internet due to unforeseen circumstances. There may be hospitalizations. Or a host of other reasons 6 months should be sufficient to see if they actually come back.
Dead guilds only hold players that like being in dead guilds. If someone joins one and notices nothing is happening, they can leave and find something else. If someone stays in one because they don’t really like being in guilds, but just want a little access to modest guild related perks, who cares? People shouldn’t be forced to fill someone else’s guild roster.
After I started playing, I took a little while to join a guild, and when I did I found it was too much pressure to do stuff, when I wanted to play my own way. I ended up in a dead guild with one or two others, who eventually left, and I basically had my guild all to myself. I stayed that way for a few years, just playing when I wanted to and only doing guild tasks and events if I wanted the rewards. If I’d been forced into another guild during that time, I’d probably have left it immediately, and if I kept getting forced into large guilds, I’d have left the game.
After that, I eventually joined a casual guild that became more active, and then when that shut down, switched to another casual guild. I’m very active and happy to help others in the guild, and want us to have a full guild, but only people who want to be there, not those forced in. It suits me to be in a guild with others, and it’s more rewarding for myself and the rest of the guild, but that doesn’t mean it was right for me back when I started out, and it doesn’t mean it’s right for every player.
I’m not sure how you think pushing players into bigger guilds will help. Say they did, they’d need to only push players into guild without requirements, because there’s no way to know what reqs a random players can/will meet. Otherwise, every guild would get stuck in a cycle of getting new players, them not meeting reqs, kicking them out, and getting another new player who won’t meet the reqs.
But even then, once they push all the players in small guilds into bigger guilds and a bunch leave, and some sit there not meeting reqs, how does it make it any easier to recruit, when you lose a player and need to find a new one, given that now everyone would already be in a big guild or looking to quit the game, leaving nobody to recruit.
I’m just curious how you see this helping with recruitment.
Very well said. I joined a guild after many years as a solo player. I’m now so sick of being pressured to do the guild stuff I’m about to leave the guild and go back solo. I only have an hour or so a day to play so by the time I’d done some guild stuff, there was no time to do what I wanted. And my gold has really taken a hit since the guild requirements were, for me, very high.
Guilds are great for those who want that kind of thing, but merging smaller ones into larger ones and deleting others I’m dead against. I think everyone should play the way they want to and shouldn’t be forced into going into a big guild.
Merging guilds only has benefits. But it shouldn’t be forced. Instead it should come naturally.
Those who are in a guild of 1 or 2 and don’t want to be pressured into doing more can do the same in a guild of 5, 8, 12, 15, 28 or 30 players, if reqs are still 0. But everyone would benefit because they “can” finish a few tasks then and also the pool of empty guilds would be reduced.
And those, who might be able to do a little more also could join guilds of players that think alike. That way it would be less guilds overall, more rewards for everyone, even if some pause for a while and therefore maybe even more fun for everyone. And if players have more fun, they might play more and finally might join a top guild, making room for others to jump in.
Only benefits. The only problem is most people are against any changes by default. Unfortunately on Xbox another top 20 guild was disbanded this week, because nobody wanted to join in fear of being rushed into higher reqs. They were 0 though and still too high …
That’s an excellent point very well made. I think that would be a fair way to do things.
I was going to leave the guild I’m currently in but I logged in today after a break of a couple of weeks to find I’d been kicked. I took a couple of weeks off to address real life issues and I was kicked! Loyalty works both ways! I put a lot of what little I’d got of both gold and time into that guild and that’s the thanks I got. Not impressed.
I’d join a guild again but only if requirements were zero and we weren’t penalised for taking a little break. In the meantime, I’ll stay solo.
Did you let them know you were taking a few weeks off or did you just disappear? Because if you didn’t let them know, they probably thought you’d just quit the game. It happens quite a lot where people quit without ever saying anything.
I left a message in the guild chat to let them know. But, even if I hadn’t, a couple of weeks is no time at all. If it had been a couple of months that would have been more understandable.
That depends on the guild. I, personally, would never kick someone who let me know they needed X amount of time away. Even if they were not contributing that much when they were there. I’d hate myself. lol. But more importantly, the core of our guild are a bunch of really nice people, who fall all over themselves to be helpful and supportive to each other. THEY would hate me. We are an active guild that likes to do well, week to week. But, we would rather come up short here and there, than kick people for having a life. At the same time… people who can’t be bothered to even give a quick heads up? They aren’t really a great fit for our more social focused guild, anyway.
Other guilds just care about numerical goals and might stick to some strict “rules” for activity. Not a place I’d want to be, but some people prefer that.
I guess my point is that a guild leader has to consider the culture and goals of the guild when they decide to make cuts. If their guild is all about numerical goals, they may lose players if they let inactive people take up space. If their guild is more “kumbaya”, they may lose players if they won’t accommodate people that request it.
Guild events these days need a full 30-people guild working together to complete reward track. If all people doing their best, a moderate invest to shop tier 4 or so is usually enough. If there are 5 people doing little or nothing, other 25 would need shop tier 6 to compensate. If 10 people don’t play, high end rewards are generally beyond reach.
