What you were expecting to happen, and what actually happened?
Dark Priestess spell description indicates that she drains X life from target ally. Accounting for her arcane trait, I expect actual life lost by target ally to be X+1. Instead, two hits are registered on the targeted ally, one for the expected amount (X+1) and a second hit for 1 point of damage.
What are the steps to make it happen again?
Use Dark Priestess’s ability on an ally, observe damage dealt.

A better view of the spell causing fatal damage it should not have:
The 1 dmg happens first, it’s meant to pop divine shields.
Not a bug.
Then how do you arrive at 21 damage when the spell is only supposed to drain 19 life?

perhaps the descritpion saying 19 damage is wrong, not the spell damage itself?
either way looks like a bug somewhere
Very strange indeed!
So:
- You have 17 Magic and you cast the spell
- Your magic increases with 1 because of the Arcane trait: Magic becomes 18
- Drain life dealt is [Magic + 2], so in your case 20
- You should survive with 1 hp because your life before cast is 21 ==> 21 - 20 = 1
By the way: the troop’s name is Dark Priestess
EDIT 2: Ignore edit 1 ==> Seems that the Dark Priestess always deals 1 standard damage (ignoring the barrier) + the life drain for some reason… This must be a bug indeed.
If there is a 1 damage hit being dealt to remove barrier before life drain then either:
