Daemonic Portal Gems: Level?

To recap, when these debuted (in 8.2) they always summoned a Troop at Lv.1 (traited if possible). But 8.3 changed that so these Gems now summon at a higher level (and still traited, if possible).

But what actually IS the formula for determining the summon level?

Currently, my guess is it assigns a Level based on the Troop’s Base Rarity – similar to the level scaling in Delves and the Tower of Doom.

I only have limited examples (that I’ve analyzed) so far, but:

  • I’ve seen these gems summon (to my side) Herald of Chaos or Herald of Torpor, both of which summoned at Lv.12 (when I have those Troops at Lv.20) – 0.6x of max level.
  • I’ve also seen a Portal Gem summon (to the cpu side) a Lv.66 Troop when the team was otherwise Lv.85 – 0.8x of team level.
  • Legendary and Mythic troops seem to be summoned at the full team level (similar to passive summon traits).

Anyone want to help research this? We should also track whether there are any differences between player and cpu.

Okay, that hypothesis is probably debunked.

I just finished a Lv.165-(ish) Underspire room where I was putting Lycanthropy on everything. Late into the battle, I’ve reduced the enemy team to a single Lv.41 troop, then it suddenly pops 3 accumulated portal gems and 3 demons show up … at only Lv.41 .

Otherwise, that battle would’ve been lost for sure.
