Class rework idea

Since certain classes are alot more OP and others heavily outdated it would be good to rework them.

One of the most simple things that can be done is having the traits only activating depending on the same troop type and/or kingdom troops on team. Like how team bonusses activate as well.
For example the Elementalist class. With no Elementals or Nexus troops on team no traits work either. Having 1 Elemental or Nexus troop you only activate Elemental bond. With 1 Elemental and 2 Nexus troops all traits work.
This would already make classes more unique instead of certain ones being slapped on teams they technically don’t belong on just cause the traits are so good.

Another change that is definitly needed because of how outdated it is are the talents. Which in several cases don’t make sense at all. Such as Stormcaller having Eternal Summer at level 100. While there’s only 1 Fey/Stryx troop in Suncrest and one other Fey/Stryx group. So completly useless to use especially for a level 100 talent. It will need a bigger rework then the trait idea but is important as well to have classes better then wjat they’re now.

Why does this sound like another “idea” to balance the game a certain way because of something happening in pvp? Maybe because the suggestion would pretty much break every mode except pvp? :roll_eyes:

I believe that Classes need a rebalance i agree. There is a list of classes that need there traits so they are more of a viable option in pvp. Especially now there are a lot more variations with status effects etc preists could have a bless a random ally on 4 matches bard could have enchant. We also need a curse stun from one of the demon classes and a 50% starter for demons is needed in the game. They all need looking at imho and these are the first few ideas that shot out me noggin’

If they’d improve properly with a slight handicap like mentioned it will make classes better then they are now and improve team building more. As every kingdom and troop type has a class for it.
So curious to what kind of downside you see to it. Also wondering if you think classes are fine or need a rework afterall just in a different way. If the latter got any ideas of your own?

TL;DR = I agree classes are out of balance. But so is everything else. If changes are needed, I’d rather address it by replacing all of the outdated/irrelevant class talents.

First I want to say that I agree 100% that the classes are not even close to balanced and many of them just plain don’t make sense in the current state of the game. I should have said that in my original reply, but that’s what happens when I post right before heading to sleep. Sorry! :rofl:

My issue is with the restriction idea. It only really makes any sense within pvp. It makes so much sense for pvp that if they could implement something like that in pvp, I might enjoy pvp more. Maybe.

However, in events and modes with their own restrictions, it would set up occasions where you can’t build a workable team. This is due to the kingdoms and troop types ALSO being wildly imbalanced. Even the mana colors have balance issues.

I know your primary concern is Elementalist class. “Likely?” because your primary concern is pvp. But, that class is a non issue in any other mode. Unless a player is newer and suffers from a lack of power and choices, it’s not an “automatic” pick for other modes. And if someone that isn’t lacking in better options, chooses to use the class anyway (even though there are better options for the task), who really cares?

Meanwhile there are other classes that synergize with troops outside of their kingdom and designated troop type. Also troops that synergize with different troop types. Off the top of my head… Mechanist class (Mech type / Adana) has Stryx Commander as one of it’s top level talents. There are no Styrx/Mech troops and no Stryx/Adana troops.

Finally, I’m against continuing the trend toward adding more restrictions to everything. It puts newer players in a bind and turns them off the game. (Bad for the game’s longevity) And while it does force the people who just want to mash buttons, using the same team for everything (people who are for whatever reason enjoying playing that way!), to change things up… it results in a huge net loss of creative options for people who normally get creative with their teams. And it creates scenarios where there is only one (or worse none!) viable team for the restriction.

What I would do… If I’m being honest, probably nothing at this point. The game is full of useless troops, so I don’t lose sleep over useless classes. And I’ve been playing long enough to see how attempts to fix these imbalances, just create worse imbalances, elsewhere. Too many moving parts. But if I HAD to monkey around with it, I’d stick to looking at all of the class talents and replaces the ones that don’t make sense in the current state of the game.

Forgot about the color restrictions that would make things harder for making teams. Which it currently does at times already now for certain events.

So basically we can at least agree on that the talents are the things that really needs an overhaul?

With Elementalist it’s indeed mainly PvP that’s the issue. Which also would be less of a problem if the special gems would be completly removed from dropping normally in PvP. Something many people already pointed out but none of the people working for IP2 ever did anything with since the beginning of the PvP changes.

Talents have needed an overhaul for years. You can almost tell how old a class is by how useless it is. :eyes: I’d love a complete revamp on classes. I’m just not sure I trust them to do it well. Sad, but true.

Special gems annoy me in general. I’m more or less ok with the ones that are created by troops. But the rng appearing ones can die in a fire. And having a special gem for all the pvp zones is just irritating.

Just color restrictions isn’t a problem but was talking about double restrictions. Such as only Divinion Fields or it was Centaur and only Yellow troope which we have seen before for a Journey think it was. Having restrictions on traits for Classes would make that alot more annoying and hadn’t thought about that.

Special gems aren’t a problem when made by opponent or self but the ones randomly droppong is what needs to go. Should have made that more clear that that was indeed the issue with them. Especially when campaign special gems are also randomly dropping next to the other special gem for a PvP kingdom.

As someone that’s used elementalist twice in the last 6 months.
I don’t know what the big deal is .

Yes it’s the best defensive class by a million miles.
But I use Doomsayer. Quick start, and a death mark.
By far the best attacking class.

I think instead of reworks, which might hurt classes.
Don’t forget, they’ve hurt some troops. After reworks .
And imho some classes , people just don’t use, because they haven’t the time to build or figure stuff out.
For instance, mechanist great class, Doomsayer my number one.
Warpriest great for stun, stops Takshaka.
Tidecaller the blue gem match is awesome.
So instead of reworks.

Maybe new classes have a updated feel.
Elementalist obviously amazing for defence.
But omg green spirit caller or whatever it’s called the warfare one, and purple terror , whatever that’s called.
There both awful, didn’t add anything to the game.
So instead of reworks , let’s enjoy the old classes like there 80s Diablos, but make the new classes 2025 lambo Murcialagos.

If you can only see things from your own perspective then you have nothing to add to the conversation. The only arguments you made here against needed class reworks is people not having time to figure out the changes and that people just need to use the old classes for “fun” instead of wanting more viability. Not really the best arguments.

Iv never been part of any straw poll, in gems of war.
So we can only speak on behalf of ourselves surely.
