Another joyless GW day ruined in battle #1

Now there will be another thread!!! :flushed::grin::skull:

@Delinquent - With how much you are whining about new threads, Iā€™m sure in the amount of time you spent chastising us for multiple threads you could have started your master thread, which would have allowed you to call us all names and try to chastise us for hating something you like yet againā€¦

Iā€™m pretty sure people donā€™t want me being the owner of the master complainer thread. Sorry for trying to give the complainers constructive feedback so their voices can best be heard while also not being a burden on the larger communityā€¦

Would it be possible to address the OP?

How would anyone who enjoys GWā€“_I enjoy GWā€“_suffer if the battles were worth roughly (or even vaguely) equal amounts?

I agree. I mean, my intention wasnā€™t to simply ā€œbitchā€ - and notice that I did also try to offer solutions to the things I didnā€™t like as opposed to just complaining. I think that solutions could be found in the scoring that would make it more enjoyable and motivating for folks like me, and keep it enjoyable and motivating for others.

I donā€™t think the way itā€™s done now is so perfect that no superior system could possibly be imagined. But that seems to be what some people are sayingā€¦ something like ā€œthe way it is is absolutely perfect, no change at all could improve it in any way, and if you donā€™t like it, leave.ā€ thatā€™s not really very productive, and I donā€™t think it reflects the state of the game. The system has already been tweaked once. Why would one assume that no further tweaking could possibly improve anything so itā€™s not even worth discussing?

I donā€™t think itā€™s perfect, but Iā€™ve been vocal b/c it feels like a contingent of players are trying to pull it in a direction I donā€™t like. Essentially, weā€™re disagreeing about where its imperfections lie.

Rather than complaining in an abstract fashion, can you explain how having the battles be more equal in point value would ruin GW?

Yes! Yes, Yes!,
If you lose an early battle you still get to play the other levels.
Still challenging but not so punitive if you lose an early match.
This has been my issue with GW from the start.
I donā€™t agree that all battles should be worth equal points, I like it that each battle can be more difficult and is worth more points, I would just like the opportunity to play all five battles.

Currently 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 5 (basically)

If they incremented 10% each then there would still be some additional incentive to care about #5.
If the 10% were compounded, #5 would be worth 46% more than #1.

If they did it non-compounded at 25%:
1 = 1.0
2 = 1.25
3 = 1.5
4 = 1.75
5 = 2.0

Thatā€™s still a HUGE swing in points, but not as ridiculous as the all-or-nothing we have now.

Itā€™s math, so the number of solution sets is infinite. I donā€™t see how any of the better ones would ruin (or change enjoyment at all) GW for the people who like it or love it, including myself.

One of the things that skews the battle advantage towards the defending side is that they are not required to use (or not punished if they donā€™t) the colour of the day. Some colours have more powerful, or agile, or versatile troops than others. I think it would be only fair if both sides are compelled to use them.
Iā€™m open to suggestions how exactly. Defense losing points for not using them? Attackers winning scoring more points against non-colour teams? Of course depending on the number of troops.
I also think that the way the colours work now, the penalty for not using the right colour is too high (or should I say the bonus for using them is). Perhaps something like 20-30 percent would be more viable.

I agree that changing up defences rather than stressing the attackers would be the better solution. Wary of how itā€™s done though, or fancy DeathKnight +3 x Famine for half the week?

Donā€™t know either. Just doesnā€™t feel right if only one side is limited (in colours in this case). Perhaps these limitations should also extend to number of the same troop, but letā€™s not go into that discussion. Thereā€™s enough of that elsewhere in the threads. :slight_smile:

Yea, GW is mostly an RNG factor.

I think I like the idea of diminished effect on points when you lose an early battle.
However, I think itā€™s part of the deal. Loosing a game should have a serious impact on the results. If you compare the 50 points versus 750 pointsā€¦ That would instantly make first battle completely irrelevant for lower brackets. It would basically make a difference for the #1 and #2 place difference, only.

If you lose against ā€œweakerā€ enemy ā€¦ You should be punished more. Thatā€™s usually how most games work. If you beat a tougher opponent - you get more points. If you lose against a weak opponent - you lose more points than against an equal.

@SpecialRX So, I actually thought I was going to squeak through this week only doing the 15 Constructs once. No luck, I got my second ā€˜15 Construct winsā€™ Task for the week this morning.

Thatā€™s funny all I ever get is beasts, and dragons. Or undead like todayā€™s, three purple, 4 of the same race, and three and undead troops.Bam done all three and 10 matches. Sometimes it feels like Guild wars practice.:grinning:

so noā€¦ itā€™s still easyā€¦ thereā€™s still no challenge. GW just condensed all of the casino game into one 5 battle set. There is still no skill at all in "get a board that allows me to get my loop started before the defense gimmick team goes off.

This is still a casino game. The only thing that GW has changed is that, for 5 battles, you canā€™t avoid the slot machine that you know has a higher cheat setting if youā€™re in a guild that requires you to participate in this farce.

Iā€™ll also remind the class that the ā€œforced participationā€ guilds are, in general, getting butchered by people leaving and it took exactly 1 week for guilds to start trying to set up win-trading.

Guild Wars has been an abject failure and it was a waste of developer time.

Guild Wars is a terrible system as it has been implemented. I urge the developers to act quickly to repair what damage has been done.

Iā€™m doing my battles for now in hopes they fix this, however my patience will grow thinner and thinner and I will have to quit my guild and/or the game.

I play games for FUN, I do not play games to add additional STRESS into my life. Forcing me to play 6 days a week against the cheesiest of the cheese matches, is what I call stress.

Thank you for summarizing this so succinctly. Iā€™ve been saying this too.

The funny thing is with the number of threads complaining about GW and the lack of threads praising it, we still havenā€™t seen the Devs weigh in.

Iā€™m guessing they are seeing a lot of paying customers leave as well as a lot of 1000+ level players leave. That guess is educated by the fact that my guild has lost 6 people to GW ā€˜rage quitā€™ and Iā€™ve almost become one of them in these past few weeks.

Iā€™m guessing that the devs are seeing the complaints and sitting back and crying because it took them so long to implement GW.

This is a carfeul plate juggling act where you have to keep plates spinning. For the Devs, they KNOW they created a bigtime casual game that canā€™t ever make hardcore gamers happy because they donā€™t provide synchronous PvP. So to introduce GW without having synchronous PVP seems like they jumped the gun and tried to make hardcore gamers happy in the middle of a game that really doesnā€™t cater to them.

When I say hardcore, I mean the kind of gamer who is up for a challenge and loves constantly going against humans rather than AI. Iā€™m not referring to the fact that grinding out a #1 in PVP means 7 days of little sleep and 16+ hours of gamingā€¦ that still remains casual because youā€™re working in a system against AI with teams that exploit the AI. You can flee a battle if you think it will take too long or the board doesnā€™t give you a loop with the first turn. I think of this as casual as compared to something like trying to get to the ā€œLegendaryā€ position in Hearthstone, a place that ONLY hardcore gamers get to.
