A way to address these screwups in the FUTURE

After the whole situation with shinys, I didn’t think we would be in this position again. I would’ve thought some lessons would’ve been learned and some safeguards put in place, but it is obvious that did not happen.

I am starting this new thread, because unlike the other threads, this is not meant to be for a place to express anger or demand proper compensation. People in those other threads are letting their feelings known, and that is perfectly justified given the magnitude of what some have lost in time and resources. My goal here is just to share an idea on how you can have a plan in place for when/if this happens again. Everyone can be positive and hope history doesn’t repeat itself, but we’ve already been here once before already.

With the shinys the devs were able to take away the tokens without doing this roll back. Apparently this was not an option this time. My idea is not easy implement and it would require some coding work, but that is the devs buren to carry if they don’t want to deal with similar fiascos in the future.

A bunch of us knew that these extra gems would be taken away so we didn’t use them, yet we were also got caught up in the net. So here is my idea, each day at reset take a snapshot of each account, then take another capturing what was collected from the daily email. That gives you a baseline to figure out what to reset the resources to. If a smiliar things happens again, it can be addressed via scripts to do the following:

  • Deduct the daily mail resources from the current total, allowing the values to go to the negative. Then add whatever the true daily mail resources were supposed to be. So if you are now 10K gems in the hole because you spent it asap, then you have to collect those back, until the “debt” has been repaid and you can earn resources again. If you have enough resources on hand for the daily totals to be recouped, then you’re not affected.
  • If someone’s totals go beyond a certain threshold in the negative, where it is obvious that your account will be unusable for a long period, you can give the player the option to do a full account roll back to the last reset. Basically what happened to everyone this time.

It is not a perfect solution and there are probably nuances I have not though of, but it is an idea that would’ve put us in a much better place than we are right now. Others are welcome to offer their own ideas or offer tweaks to my suggestion.

Not a bad idea. I do want the person who screwed up so badly gone from their job. There should also have been a letter sent to all users in our game mailbox what happened. The rollback was too extreme and the utter lack of communication and apology is inexcusable.

Two obvious things they SHOULD do:

1 ) NEVER release anything on a friday. You are only making things much harder for youself when you mess up. The fact that this isn’t already company policy speaks to the inexperience of the developers.

2 ) put all pertinent info in text logs. Assume you will have to undo everything and log with that in mind.

honestly, the developers are so incompetent I wouldn’t let them maintain my toaster.

When players (customers) are gonna learn that this company is going to do nothing that players ask? Only thing is that they “put note” in long list, that is so long that no one is going to read it anymore. Game is run now with only few people and they do only things to get bread on their table, even if that means pissing on customers. But dont worry there are players who like that, thats why they still use real money on this. They have all the rights to use their money as they want. But if you use real money and complain… mayby, just mayby you should stop using money. Since supporting this with money, words dont matter nothing.

U designing it according you have already failed to put correct values and trying to downscale the following events.
Correct way is setup meaningful limits to each resource Ingame which can be send or set as a reward. If some mail or reward gets above that threshold - notify admin there are probably bugged reward and throw cliffy when player tries to collect unless admin confirms this very case. So far I don’t recall an event granting more than 1k gems. Imagine having thos limits online, so many situations could have been avoided.

They release new untried patch on Friday on purpose, since they cannot be reached.

They might want also to explore the possibilities of a trial server, I hear they are all the rage in the last three or four decades. But they won’t.

To be fair, I don’t think the compensation mail was deliberately released, given Jeto said on (their) Friday afternoon that the plan was to hold off on sending it until Monday.

Accidentally released and bugged though, oof, that was bad.

Folks calling for the devs to be fired – or publicly executed, dear lord come on now – need to spend a moment quietly reflecting on whether they have ever / will ever make a bad mistake at their job.
