A way to address these screwups in the FUTURE

After the whole situation with shinys, I didn’t think we would be in this position again. I would’ve thought some lessons would’ve been learned and some safeguards put in place, but it is obvious that did not happen.

I am starting this new thread, because unlike the other threads, this is not meant to be for a place to express anger or demand proper compensation. People in those other threads are letting their feelings known, and that is perfectly justified given the magnitude of what some have lost in time and resources. My goal here is just to share an idea on how you can have a plan in place for when/if this happens again. Everyone can be positive and hope history doesn’t repeat itself, but we’ve already been here once before already.

With the shinys the devs were able to take away the tokens without doing this roll back. Apparently this was not an option this time. My idea is not easy implement and it would require some coding work, but that is the devs buren to carry if they don’t want to deal with similar fiascos in the future.

A bunch of us knew that these extra gems would be taken away so we didn’t use them, yet we were also got caught up in the net. So here is my idea, each day at reset take a snapshot of each account, then take another capturing what was collected from the daily email. That gives you a baseline to figure out what to reset the resources to. If a smiliar things happens again, it can be addressed via scripts to do the following:

  • Deduct the daily mail resources from the current total, allowing the values to go to the negative. Then add whatever the true daily mail resources were supposed to be. So if you are now 10K gems in the hole because you spent it asap, then you have to collect those back, until the “debt” has been repaid and you can earn resources again. If you have enough resources on hand for the daily totals to be recouped, then you’re not affected.
  • If someone’s totals go beyond a certain threshold in the negative, where it is obvious that your account will be unusable for a long period, you can give the player the option to do a full account roll back to the last reset. Basically what happened to everyone this time.

It is not a perfect solution and there are probably nuances I have not though of, but it is an idea that would’ve put us in a much better place than we are right now. Others are welcome to offer their own ideas or offer tweaks to my suggestion.
