7.4 Update: Pillars of Light

:point_up_2: This, very much indeed.

PvP leaderboards used to be mostly Time Invested

then having a Lower Level + 1/2 to 2/3 Time Invested

now Bonuses (obtainable with cash) obliterate Time Invested, even IF they eventually fix the VP level unfairness.

PvP leaderboards have joined IP2’s P2W trend indeed

Yeah, I was gonna put a post up asking why several monoliths give the same buffs, even though you only have enough valhawks to activate 2 at a time (assuming maximum buff), when I realised they want you to spend tons of gold marks on monolith sigils.
Or why the buffs last 5 hours at max level, but you have to use them immediately, meaning they expect players to play for 5 hours? But yeah, if you spend money on gold marks, to spend on monolith sigils to spend on PvP buffs, to then farm VP, to earn gold marks
and that’s just dumb as a concept, but whatever
then you’d want that PvP buff to last a long time, I guess.

EDIT:

Yeah, this. Exactly.

Like the double score feature and the hawks not a bad idea at all to be honest im having fun with it. But saying that god only knows how long this will impact on gw. But i do like the mini update

Im with you 100%, but there’s also kinda no point to pay-to-win in PvP when you can just pay to buy currency to buy the book straight up and skip the process. (so far)

yea, the only real downside to this patch is that any semblance of a fair playing ground is basically out the window for PvP leaderboards. With rewards still tied to placements, this feels terrible. Everything else about the update is great, allowing people to finish their 6500 VP quicker.

If they change the rewards to be based on the league you are in for that week, instead of whether you place top 3, PvP might actually become one of the better game modes.

This. Could someone theoretically buy an absurd amount of Victory Talismans? Sure, but winning the bracket still would take time and there’s a chance that someone could outdo you. Assuming you spend enough money and time on PvP to blow away the competition, you get 120 gold marks in the best league (I’m ignoring global leaderboards, which have always required massive amounts of gems/time/money). That nets you about 100 Dragonite or a single book of a random color weekly.

It would be far, FAR wiser to buy Dragonite in the dungeon or buy books of deeds from Legends Reborn events. Again, could someone spend a ludicrous amount of money (and still have to spend time in a lot of battles) to top a bracket? Sure, but it would be next to worthless for them.

Pay for advantage and less time commitment, sure, but not P2W by my definition. When I think P2W I think of those kingdom builder apps where F2P players literally have no chance of being able to directly compete against paying players. Excusing global leaderboards, there is no aspect of GoW that meets this qualification.

does the amount of tailsman gain in the game stay if not used from week to week

And is there a maximum amount of talismans we can have? If so, what?

Talismans will remain in your inventory if u don’t use them. (Everything besides the victory talisman is a waste imo, I just have the rest for completionist sake)

And who knows? Maybe a whale can save up 10,000 victory talismans and screenshot it.

If we complete the requirements now for these achievements will they pop retroactively later when they finally go live or will we have to redo the requirements?

Any ETA on Xbox getting the achievements? Because this is becoming a joke, does Microsoft know something we don’t

I wonder how much of each player’s VP comes from the level difference. Right now, this can be from 25-90 VP.
My bonuses are typically something like:

  • connect 8, 6
  • extra turns, 4
  • speed, 9
  • dominion, 10
an additional 29. So If you’re at the highest level, you’re playing for about 25+29 = 54 each battle. For other people it’s about 50+29 = 79 each.
    79/54 = 1.46, nearly a 3/2 difference.

If we simply added 25 to each battle, it’d be 104/79 = 1.31, about a 4/3 ratio. Much fairer. it’d be pretty easy to adjust the weekly pvp goals accordingly.

I’m surprised that so many people think Central Spire is the PVP zone. For me it is the color regions by far, even after the journey troop nerf. Monuments adds to that.
Region/troop type restrictions deserve better buffs.

I just did some informal experimenting with the bugged “Epic Trials” button so consider this a PSA.

If you:

  1. Select a Trial in any Kingdom other than the current week
  2. Cancel out from the battle prep screen
  3. Click the “Epic Trials” button and select a Trial tier

Then:

  • The battle prep screen shows the Kingdom name, Trial Tier, Tips, AND Team from the previous Kingdom. Apparently THAT’s the actual bug.
  • You can still start the battle with this team, but it will never actually terminate, win or lose. Even if you attempt to retreat, this will have no effect and the battle continues uninterrupted. Your only recourse is to close out the game.

It looks like this is specifically related to the Kingdom of the opposing team in the prior pre-battle screen – e.g. if you just finished an Explore battle in, say, Vulpacea (regardless of the specific team), then clicking the Epic Trials button will preload your team with Vulpacea’s trial team.

Note that if you access Epic Trials first thing upon starting the game, it appears to default to Broken Spire.

Somehow, despite being a bunch of bonus stuff, the update makes me way less motivated to play Pvp than before.
It’s maybe once a year, that I play Pvp for prolonged time, and push towards some top 100 rank. And that’s not a planned thing, nor something I am happy about afterwards. On most regular weeks, I don’t even use the full new weekly one hour income buff.
Being nudged to play this mode daily (usually I dedicate no more than one day per week to Pvp), so that I am getting “rewarded” with five hours of status bonus, that further “encourage” me to play the mode every second day, is not helping.

The effect of the update is, that you are making stuff harder, so that you can offer an option to make it easier, with the “benefit”, that players get more points to keep up with other players, who get more points too. Running in circles is no progress.

If there were no achievements for it, I doubt I would exchange my hawk tokens even once. At least I won’t get any more of those, once I am maxed out, so it is easier to ignore them altogether instead of being discouraged about it.

And about the changes in the points mechanic, I am confident, those will arrive in the same update, that brings us an ingame message system

I’m not sure if this is due to monuments or Blood Frenzy, but I’m seeing this when clicking on enemies in pvp.

Yes, please put out the achievement patch asap. ALSO BETA TEST ON XBOX. You would have caught it. No excuse that the platform that invented achievements is broken.

1 key. woo.
