Starlite Calculates Fair Compensation and Restitution

Personally when I saw the list plus the War and Peace length justification the word fair was not one that came to mind.

It takes me couple of tries to read the post. It consists of some math and logicks along with suffering and righteous anger)

Let me start by saying that you’ve spent an utterly amazing amount of effort on this. I wish those running the game would put half as much thought into it, or even just have half the detailed knowledge. However, I don’t think this list is a fair list:

The problem is that it lists what highly active players might have lost. It’s way above what players with average activity level might have lost, and probably something casual players wouldn’t be able to collect within a month of playing. They can’t hand this out to every account, it would kill most of their early player sales, which they won’t be able to afford.

I’d rather propose the idea of scaling compensation by activity. A good metric for that is trophies, you get some for almost everything you do. Check in the logs how many trophies were individually lost as part of the rollback, adjust compensation accordingly. This isn’t the same as individual compensation, which is way too much work, just some automated multiplier on a fairly small global compensation package. If that’s still too much effort, scale by account level.

For luck related things (like having found a specific sentinel), I don’t believe there’s a viable way to recover anything. Instead, put tarot cards / gem dragons / sentinels / hoard mimic up for crafting for a couple of weeks, at standard cost. That would at least address the pain of having to hit the jackpot a second time, possibly very far in the future due to the low odds involved.

And that is the reason I’ve been a F2P player on Switch since that fiasco :frowning:

If that stuff is kept in the logs? Let the aggrieved players in question submit tickets for the specific losses they’d like reimbursed, and oblige somebody on the server side to go through those logs to find those things.

But with a caveat: If you submit a ticket asking to be reimbursed for something and you’re inventing it out of whole cloth hoping to pull a fast one? Get banned.

They have already stated there will be global compensation and everyone will get the same.
You can propose whatever you like, it doesn’t matter. They’ve already stated their position. All we can do now is push for the global compensation to actually compensate most players.
It’s fair to say compensation shouldn’t hit the highest of highs, but it should cover more than an average player. And it should reflect that players had to redo a bunch of stuff, as well as losing the original time.

They also can’t afford to lose their whales. And getting a large amount of resources early on while playing a game is not likely to kill players spending. It will keep them playing and there’s tons of new stuff that this won’t affect, that they can spend on, like campaign passes. I can’t say it won’t have an effect, but saying it will kill their income and they can’t afford it, is absurd.

I think it’s a good idea. I doubt they’ll do that, as it would end the grind for those things, and they seem to love making their players grind for stuff.

Also, as far as checking the logs, it REALLY feels like they just deleted those logs as part of the reset. I can’t prove that, but the fact they’re saying they will not compensate anything individual, other than what was paid with cash (real money transactions have their own logs, out of the game, which can be traced), suggests they either can’t or don’t want to. Given that they could just let players submit tickets and check if they’re lying, but they’re basically saying they won’t do that, it feels to me more like that isn’t an option, for whatever reason.
Hell, if they still had the logs, they could just use those to restore lost stuff, like currency earned or whatever, but they are stating they won’t do that.
Be honest. Do you think they have those logs and are just being awkward? Or that they don’t have the logs?

I believe that they DO have those logs. But I also believe that going through the logs on an individual basis for a significant number of players is something that they’d deem “a waste of time”, or at least “not worth the time and effort”.

Think about how often Jeto asks for user-IDs when responding to bug reports here in the forum. Precisely because that’s how she can cross-check the logs to see what really happened. So we can conclude that those logs stick around for a while.

But it’s likely a large database, and querying through that database to find an individual’s activity isn’t a quick process. Maybe if the developers had advanced AI tools to trawl the database for them, the way certain alphabet-soup government agencies do.

I read every word, and while I don’t necessarily concur with every word, you have my admiration for the care and sheer thoroughness you’ve taken in your approach.

If the devs had one-tenth your diligence, we’d be playing a far better game.

Good News on the compensation front. There are currently no plans to assess a tariff no matter how many hours you play the game. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

You mean in general. They definitely do have them generally.
I’m talking about the logs for the time that was rolled back. I assume those logs got lost in the rollback, meaning they will have logs before then (Thursday backwards) and after then (Saturday onwards). I just suspect they don’t have the logs for Friday, any more.

As someone who has been around this game for 10+ years now, I will say I see all the ideas here and what people think as “reasonable”.

And yeah, maybe Starlite’s estimations are too high for the average player or something like that. Even as high level player who could theoretically do everything listed, I just don’t anymore. Because here’s the larger truth.

Gems has been and is continuing to die as a game. A lot of us who have been around forever don’t play as much as we used to. Situations like this that continue to just drain excitement. I log in daily. I do most stuff but I just don’t care enough for all of it. Insufficient compensation does hurt, but stuff has been broken or unchanged in bad ways for ages. It’s not shocking and whatever meager stuff we get won’t be a shock either.

But the thing about Starlite’s suggestion is that the bleeding of active players (especially at the top) is people who pay the most too. I still would buy stuff every season. Campaign Pass, PvP Pass, maybe a premium item here or there. Holiday events, Legends Reborn. I’d invest into those regularly. But too many of these things where it doesn’t feel like the return or apology matches wears you down in terms of caring about a game.

I play the game a lot even as someone doing less and less. But there’s always a lingering sense of packing it up and saying I’m done. The guy who joined and put in multiple hours a day saying how much he was having is long gone.

Though what you devised is fair, it will never happen…The developers DON’T CARE about the player base..the people that pay their bills…our opinions and fair treatment mean exactly NOTHING to them…I’d tag every one of them to see this message if I could..

Don’t blame the devs, blame the bean counters

In theory, a game would be fun to play, so the idea of being compensated for your time playing a game in a non-esports/professional way is WILD to me. I would like to be comped my dungeon dragonite and astral tokens, but such is life and that’s a small price compared to the headache I’m sure I+2 has dealt with. They’re human too.

I know some people are going to be pissed because they’ll view this compensation as inadequate compared to what they lost in time and rng. I’ll be honest, I got more than what I lost personally, so I am happy with this. Star Srones, Dragonite and Burning Marks are definitely more than what I had expected to get. I would imagine the majority of people lost about as much as I did and should be ok with this, but I could be off base.

Sympathies for those who lost dragons and an insane number of hours grinding pvp. Realistically, no “blanket compensation” will feel adequate for you.

To me this compensation feels fair, so a big “THANK YOU!” to Starlite, because without him we wouldn’t have gotten anything near this value. (I suppose, sorry devs.)
