Single Troop Defenses

I have posted this before, but rewards should be set.
Team on the left 800 gold, team in the middle 1400 gold, team on the right 2000 gold.

And then it’s up to the game to find a match for each category.
If the game can’t then the player is “lucky” and can fight an easier battle on the right.

It’s the game’s responsibility to provide the player with challenges to earn the gold.

Here, the player gets “punished” for the game not finding any matches that would earn you decent gold.

Also, just rolled this in PvP:

Thought this wasn’t supposed to be happening?

It is, if you set every team to single card elspeth

I understand what you’re saying but to me that almost sounds like an unintentional outcome, based on their reasoning behind the change.

It is only a detail but, once again, it is not just about account sharing. It is about botting.
It seems that someone who was widely believed to be botting has abruptly disappeared from the leaderboards last week? But there are surely many more who are botting who don’t get banned.
I have been reporting someone for 3 months now and I am still being told that he is being investigated, which is already a lot better than what I was expecting when there has been the thread of PVP rankings being a joke.

The account sharing one is just the example I chose to use. Of course there’s botting, glitching, and all other kinds of weird stuff going on.

The bottom line is that the PVP rankings aren’t pristine and pretty much everybody knows they aren’t.

So why try to sell this change as “necessary to maintain the integrity of the leaderboards”? Unless she actually WAS saying that they just got sick of all the complaints. Which again just mystifies me.

Yes. It was just a side remark. I agree with most of what you have said.

It sounds like a bunch of mid-game players are in for some very rude surprises as their 5400-power opponents get magically rerolled into 9600-power endgame teams to replace what was originally a 1TD. Scout early, scout often, people.

To be fair, it does take quite a bit of time to set up the surveillance around their home… plus you then still gotta catch them in the act.

It’s even worse when they play on mobile… You need quite the team to cover someone the whole day then.
Especially bathroom sessions are tricky to tape…

So it goes from this…

to that…

And there are even 3 trophy battles like this.

It’s a bit slower, yes. But i question if this “fix” brings the wanted change, even more so economy-wise. For my part, i would love to see the “spirit” of guild wars in pvp or the choice for players to do so. In short, greater rewards for greater challenges, something that’s missing right now. Something that would have prevented the single troop defence, atleast for me. I wouldn’t mind facing those Famine-Teams above all the time, if the reward is equivalent to the hassle. Though i understand, that another pvp overhaul can’t be implemented right away.

Guild wars has this “something” to a certain extent, but is split from pvp and limited. And since this is a grind game, you go back to pvp to accumulate ressources (some do).
I know. Nothing new, but i had an urge to voice my thoughts. I’ll be patient. I love this game and every new patch excites me.

Let’s hope for the best

Unclear what you mean by that, exactly - could you give some examples?

I suspect many players around here would be alarmed by the ‘spirit of GW’ affecting wider PvP: all games are against trollmetagriefcrap and any losses really penalise you? No thanks…

now that you have taken away you should scale up the amount of gold you get per 9k pvp fight, the rewards are horrible there even for vip 4 with 100% gold on armor

i get an average of 3-4k per fight and its just not worth it when it take several minutes to kill, specially if they get lucky with extra turn after extra turn

I’m not sure… Like what i said: “greater rewards for greater challenges”. Though it’s probably more about the rewarding experience in guild wars, if your not in the top brackets, where you also get alot of gems and cards. I would like to have this experience transfered into pvp, of course without the points you mentioned. (I just personally wouldn’t mind, if those teams still exist after mentioned change) . And at best achieved through a equivalent batch of ressources.

I might stand alone with my “spirit” of guild wars definition or i probably should have chosen another word.

Edit: Oh and i meant the famine teams shown by Maxx, in all cases, not the teams in my Screens. Don’t know if you misunderstood me there.

i also wouldnt mind if the reward was proportional to the effort, but as long as team scores are so stiffly calculated its never going to happen

i kept level 1 untraited cards for this exact day!

to be on topic, i don’t quite agree for the temporary quick fix like this. i choose to use 1 troop defense because i’m sick of facing grief teams designed to make my battle longer and spiteful. to be honest, since using 1 troop defense, i played the game longer in one sitting.

this is a comment driven by anger:

so what is the spirit of the game? design a grief enough team so people on the other side of the screen stop playing, or straight away quit the game?

Here, I can help:

The spirit of the game is to spend more than half a dozen premium PC/console games, still be gated off from content, put forth defense teams to grief other players out of the game, and play 8hrs+ daily to compete with bots, hacks, and nolifers.

I have to agree that 1 troop defenses is not what this game intended and nor should be used…

However… lets look at the reasons why people are doing the 1 troop defenses.

  • The Defenses you face are more randomized and better diversity
  • You potentially get more reward for your time
  • The meta teams/troops are far less as often

I know I used to love the previous PvP mode, because it only costed 10 gold to skip the meta team, and no matter what defense team you used, you could fight non-meta teams. The teams you fought were more randomized and the reward for those fights usually represented the difficulty of the matches. Weaker teams worth less gold, and tougher ones worth more.

Now PvP 2.0, because I have been playing a long time, level 1200+ almost every match is against the meta, you know the teams that if by chance get a lucky sky drop (coin flip defenses) they will likely take out my key troop or troops, sometimes enough to make winning impossible. This issue is most likely due to Devour/Death-mark. Those skills in the game, just eat away at a player every time its used against them. There are some people “whom don’t mind it”, however I feel the majority of the players “dislike it”.

If you want to make PvP better, then stop allowing us to set the teams. Why not just set the META for everyone. Then you can watch your player base crumble to only the most hardcore of all the players. If this is what you want, then you are on the right path.

I feel some of the changes with the game, like Guild Wars has only compounded the issue of having META teams/troops always being fought against.

Why do we have 300+ troops if were fighting the same 10-15 over and over? Please think about this, and its not 100% due to balance of cards.

I used to love PvP before devour/death-mark, the game was still challenging and seemed to have more “strategy” than we currently have today. Today’s meta is mana drain the other team, or devour them first. Back in the day it actually took several turns to win matches. Today with the right board start/team, the other team doesn’t get a single turn. But if you give the other team 1 turn, you could be done in 1 turn as well. I have lost 2+ troops many times on the AI’s 1st turn.

Where is the strategy in this? This game has moved from Strategy to Coin Flip! I think the problems GoW is seeing today is mostly due to this. And a few of us vocal forumers are trying to help before it becomes worse.

Maybe the dev’s don’t see it the same way we do, because they aren’t playing hundreds of PvP matches each week. Maybe they don’t intend people to actually play the game that much.

Dev’s: Do yourself a favor, find a team and play the meta double famine deathmark and forest guardian/kerebos battles 200+ times in a row. Then maybe you might start seeing what the players see. This won’t be a complete waste of time, it will make you start to view it from the players perspective.

This^^… Devs, if this change is to be permanent then why not let the people that have VIP of level 5 and above have the choice to let our new troops start at level one if we wish? To many of us our VIP levels are now handicapping us and it’s a surefire way to make me stop spending another penny on the game.
