Journey (Zaejin) July 13

Well to the surprise of nobody, they’ve applied no changes to the Green Goblin (see Headstart Flash Offer)

Is it a fake goblin?

Why don’t we ask Skulker what Grub Wildshot’s deal is?

But in all seriousness, not giving the next Journey troop an extra turn is healthier for the game, even if it does not make any sense.

Yeah, right.

Healthier for the perfectly balanced game.

Grub Wildshot getting an extra turn makes sense for a Goblin.

Not for a Journey troop.

The Devs 99% of the time do not make any changes once troops and weapons are released. Of course this game is not balanced. People cannot see the negative impact that changes will make and then complain about things they cannot fully understand.

Journey is Journey. Goblin is Goblin. Then people will start asking, “Why can’t all Journey troops get an extra turn?” Along with other nonsensical things. The game is easy enough anyway once you have Wand of Stars and Dragonite dragons. There is no need to add more garbage in a game that is infested with RNG.

I stand by this.

Either make Grub a kobold/skulker (goblin/naga or goblin/rogue) or let him have an extra turn.

For anyone complaining about balance, (firstly, where were you when Sir Ailuin came out? Didn’t see you demanding a nerf for balance) just have him create less gems in return for the extra turn. Either reduce how many gems he creates to zero before the boost, or half the boost ratio. Either way, he’ll go from creating 2-10 gems (which is still not much, let’s be clear) to either 0-8 or 2-6 (depending what you reduce). You can easily balance him out.

He’s only going to be used for the journey event, and he’ll be stuck in the last slot and ignored, no matter what they do. So why not just let him be a real goblin, rather than a pretend one?

They never fixed Skulker and ignored us, so there is your answer.

I do not know why people ask for additional effects from Pathfinders because they are xx troop type. It does not matter anyway. Just put them on the bottom of your team (kind of like new Doomed weapons and other things) and be done with it.

Like I said earlier. Pathfinders are Pathfinders. Troop types are troop types. It is hard to find the right words, but they should be separate. Yes, Raid boss troops can have a good use defeating the Malestrom boss during Guild Wars, but that encourages people to actually think and create new teams.

Clicking a troop over and over again does not promote better gameplay. It encourages people to use another dumbed down method of winning battles. Leave that to Wand of Stars and Dragonite dragons and try to think of other methods.

Why?
Defenders are defenders and warmongers are warmongers. Do they have to be treated differently, too?
Troop types are there as a grouping of troops that are similar in some way - generally appearance - and some signify specific details of the troops. And for goblins, that has always meant they get an extra turn on their spell.
Kobolds were an exception because they were not goblins. They were just half-goblin and treated differently.
Skulker was the first goblin that didn’t have an extra turn in it’s spell at all, and that still seems like a stupid decision to me. They should justify that in some way, and making the pathfinder a skulker would have been an easy fix, but instead they’re adding another goblin that doesn’t fit the rules of being a goblin.
If we keep going down that path, troop types will become irrelevant. Why even have them? Just remove them and people can go by kingdom or name, instead. I mean, sure, that would make the game worse, but why not?

We have 4 events with event captain troops - raid boss, invasion, journey, bounty hunt. In each of them, the event captain has something specific that is the same across the board (a trait, something in their spell, or both). BUT, in every other case, they still conform to their typical type rules (AFAIK). A goblin godslayer gets an extra turn in it’s spell (Hellcackle). A goblin siegebreaker gets an extra turn in it’s spell (Mok The Cannon Rider). A goblin bountyhunter gets an extra turn in it’s spell (Cinderhand Goblin).
So why does the pathfinder have to be different?

Again, if the only answer is “balance”, they could balance it elsewhere. We already have a pathfinder that’s different to the standard mould, and the original ones were completely different. They don’t need to break the goblin type to make new troops fit.

Pathfinder haven’t been that since the nerf. They don’t create enough gems to reliably loop any more, and trying that might succeed a few times, but eventually you’ll lose the turn and give the enemy a big advantage.

I think we are just going in circles. Yes, troop Types, Roles, and Kingdom themes need to be upheld, but it’s going down a slippery slope. Much of this game makes sense from their eyes, but not ours, and I do not like stirring the pot. Trying to defend ourselves will not get us anywhere–the developers do want they want without any need of us. They rarely take our feedback into consideration, but I am long past that hope.

The game has been changed so much and things are stupidly easy once a player has all the tools at their disposal. Kingdom restrictions in Guild Wars is honestly the only “hard mode” we have left. People just want to get things over with, and move on. I get it. This game never ends. But when people do not think anymore, they complain when they have to think for tough restrictions.

I am just one person, and I think we are long past “fixing” how troops and weapons should be designed. It is their choice, not ours, and we just have to accept the game for what it is.

I don’t think that’s something people should let happen, especially when there’s a complete lack of quality assurance in Gems of War. It’s basically one step away from letting the game be slop (from sloppy) and a few steps away from not being profitable enough/reach end of life cycle.

I’m not confident if the game makes sense from their eyes either considering how they handled Exalted Paths and the fact we’re constantly having the introduction redone for beginners instead of adding on new systems to the game to help beginners and give it more variety.

Tying it back to these Journey troops, they’re kinda on autopilot for most of these new troops.
